health fair

  1. I posted this under public health nursing but I thought I should also post here.
I am a RN in a BSN program. I am currently in a Community Health class and my project is to put on a health fair. I am doing the health fair at my church as part of the parish nurse ministry. I am hoping that you guys might have some ideas about how to get volunteers, money, door prizes, supplies etc. I have gotten alot of info about different toipics from the web, but if you have any suggestions about different booths I should have or ways to make the info fun and informative. I would appreciate anything you have to offer.
    Thanks so much

    Hello, Rachel,

Have you thought about contacting some of the local clinics and see if they would want to participate? Maybe offer free check ups and the like? Have someone from a clinic talk about the flu season and the need for immunizations? If you could swing this, have someone speak on diet choices for diabetics and have receipes available, maybe even some diabetic type foods for samples.......

In my part of the world( the Texas Panhandle ), the local blood bank often holds blood drives in conjunction with health fairs. It usually take about a month to schedule one here. The Red Cross is another organization often present at our health fairs. If time permits, call the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, Drug/Alcohol treatment centers, or your local health club. I hope this helps. I know that these huge projects are very stressful.

October is Cancer Awareness Month. One way to get volunteers is to invite the local Cancer Society/Support group to stage a booth at the health fair, other booths may be set up by the local Diabetic and Hypertensive Association.

rto.........Do you have contacts thru a local hospital??

Around here the hospital is always good about donating a first aid kit or something like that.
If you have hospital/clinic type contacts, how about reps and vendors??
Many times they have small budgets that allow for gifts.
10 dollar gift certificates from Chili's or Ruby Tuesday's, TGI Fridays are good.

Some great suggestions here, think around your community. Red Cross, health dept, clinics, hospitals, other service organizations,,,heck even EMS and police/fire could be great contributors!
    Good Luck!! Mike

ps don't forget your local media. TV/radio/newspapers might give you a little a little help as well.

Most local bussinesses will be glad to help anyway they can. Also, most franchises usually have a fund for gifts. I agree that EMS/Fire agencies are also good because they are always looking to get their name out there in the public's eye. You might also considering contacting your local government for resources. It makes them look good sponsoring events such as yours.
