Has anyone renewed their ACLS on-line

I am a travel nurse, my ACLS is going to expire in September. I talked with my recruiter about finding a class to attend and she told me my company is recommending that we renew on line. I am wondering if anyone has renewed this way and how they felt about it. My recruiter referrred me to American Medical Resource Group. According to their web site:

"Online ACLS recertification is accredited for continuing education credit by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and the ACLS Certification Board Incorporated".

I'm going to call American Heart Association for their recommendation but in the mean time I'd love to hear what you guys think.

No mega code sounds too easy......

This has been discussed over at Delphi Forums (Travel Nurse and Therapists) and the feeling I got was that some hospitals would not recognize the online renewal card.

Your best bet is to call the AHA and ask their opinion. I also heard that the AHA is supposed to go online with a renewal program this fall.

One of the docs I work with says she is going to do the online renewal. It is a test consisiting of 300 questions to be done at one sitting in 150 minutes max.

If you do have to pay for a renewal, remember it is tax deductable. Another way is to call the education dept of the local hospitals and ask when and where the next ACLS course is going to be.

I just renewed mine at the hospital I am a traveler at, did not cost me anything but my time, and 12 dollars for a card from the state. A pretty good deal IMO.

I just looked this group up and found this :

The American Heart Association has been receiving calls about online ACLS courses. The following is the AHA position:ACLSonline.us is a website operated by American Medical Resource Group (AMRG) and/or the ACLS Certification Board, Inc. The American Heart Association has neither reviewed nor endorses the training program offered on the ACLSonline.us website. The on-line site and American Medical Resource Group are not American Heart Associa-tion Training Centers and may not issue American Heart Association ACLS or PALS course cards. The American Heart Association has not authorized any totally web-based training program to issue American Heart Association cards.

Don't know how old this is, but doesn't look promising?

Thanks guys, I kinda had a feeling it wasn't going to be too legit. I think I will try to renew at the hospital I am presently contracted with. That way I won't have to worry about problems down the line.

I wish it WERE legit-according to the site there is no time limit. My ACLS expired 13 years ago and I am a quick study . If it ever DOES become legit I'm in!

Hi, I do travel nursing too. I just completed the ACLS course that CPR associates offers online. I was very pleased with it. You get 32 log-in hours to complete it and can practice without logging in. You receive an AHA Provider Card when you have completed the course. It is accepted by hospitals and I learned it better than any traditional class I've been to. You can get to it through my website at:

Hi,

Just wanted to also say, there is a megacode in this course that is random and changes circumstances frequently throughout the code and is difficult. It took a lot of practice. That's why you really learn it so well. Strip recognition is also difficult because there are so many variations of each rhythm strip from different leads. The software is "Heart Code."

You keep the software when you've completed the course and can use it to learn from in detail.

Nurse Nevada, Just posted a question to the AHA about the legitimacy of this apparent AHA approved online course. It would be awesome if they are in agreement w/them!

Thanks, I will keep you posted when they reply.

Let us know what they say, as I'd love to try this. :)

Hi, I received this from CPR Associates regarding AHA approval:

The AHA's position on web-based Training is, and I quote, "The American Heart Association has not authorized any totally web-based training program to issue American Heart Association cards."

CPR Associate's ACLS program, however, is not web-based. It is a client/server computer program. A student must install the client program And database driver and use his/her Internet connection to access our server which feeds the client the course information and the random questions, static strips, tracks the students progress and scores the tests and simulations. This is the ONLY computer based ACLS training course that IS AHA approved and successful students will receive an AHA ACLS card.

Hope this answers some questions for you.

Those AMRG and "ACLS certification board, inc" are a scam. Their "ACLS certification" is not approved by AHA and AHA have no knowledge of their operations. Pay them and get your "ACLS card" and good luck having it approved by any hospital credentialing committee!! They wouldn't even admit that they scammed you and return your money!!!!!
