Going green makes me red in the face

If I get one more email or anyone from management continually talking about going green, carbon footprint, save the earth, blah blah blah - I AM GOING TO SCREAM!!!!

All I want to do at the start of a shift is print up my list of patients and recieve report. Can't do that now...its online only. Seeing as I go room to room without the computer and i have not memorized the patients names, what use is that for introductions and reference?

"You are saving the earth and its bounty"

Call me old fashioned but i require paper and pencil....

Go Green, Climate Change, Green this, Green that

Let me tell you something: The only green i care about has pictures of dead presidents on it

This is somewhat related but not really : The OBSESSION with organic food/trader joes.

Am I the only person who sees this as insanity? Its a recession, nobody can afford the basics, gas prices rise by the hour and people shop for Organic food because its "healthier"

Another news flash: Your choice $4.00 for a gallon of milk or $7 for a gallon of milk? Organic veggies all came from the same place as non-organic veggies.....in the earth with cow poop!

Heh, you hit on one of my pet peeves.

"Organic" crops are often more land and resource intensive, are not pesticide free and are not nutritionally superior. All wheat grown in the US is technically GMO (what do people think hybridizing is?) and there is a great deal of NON-organic meats raised without abx or hormones if you bother to actually read the labels.

"organic" is an awesome marketing campaign though.

Trader Joe's is actually really affordable. We love to shop there because we can get fancy foods and organic foods for cheap. They have really good stir fries, their tartar sauce is SOOOOOO good, and they give you a discount if you bring your own bags.

I do love me some Trader Joe's for their convenience foods.

Its like the pink (breast cancer) movement. Started small and personal but now every time i go grocery shopping there is some food item with the Pink Ribbon on it or the cashier asking for a $1 donation.

Call me self centered and rude but I think that the breasy cancer band-wagon is already sensory overload and overkilled. I donate to lesser know cancer foundations because as I see it, the bigshots (Livestrong, Susan komen) have comercialized cancer into a disneyland holiday

The pink campaign bothers me because these companies don't say what amount they are donating to brca research, they don't say how it's being used (actual research or administrative/advertising costs), or even specifically who they are donating to. All in all I feel like I am being hornswaggled by big business. The CEO of Komen earns $500,000/yr. Pink has become big business.

I also hate those stupid bra/lingerie, sex-up-your breasts pink campaigns, supposedly to raise awareness. Is anybody out there not aware of breast cancer? Breast cancer is cancer. It's about life and death. Not about boobs.

But that's just me and my rant and it's OT.:oornt:

I understand exactly how you feel. I actually try to avoid pink ribbon merchandise. The biggest killer of women is heart disease. My mother just died of colon cancer.

I'm so glad other people the way to do about the whole breast cancer overkill.. how about we use all that money and put into into cancers that have a much lower survival rate, like lung cancer, colon cancer, pancreatic, or even put some money into heart disease.

I remember when my bank kept bugging me to get electronic account statements instead of paper. My monthly statements consisted of two pages of black and white while the 2-3 unsolicited credit card applications I received weekly were numerous pages of high gloss print.

I LOVE getting electronic bank statements. No more need to worry about losing them! Personal preference though, and it shouldn't be forced on you.

I feel the same way! I wish leukemia would get some attention. I'd take my chances with breast cancer before leukemia if I had to choose.
