GA, CO, or TX Which state has a higher pay rate for RN?

Nurses General Nursing

After nursing school I am wanting to move from Savannah, Ga and would like to start getting background information on these states and pay rates. If everyone could post what specialty in nursing they are and the pay rate for a 1st year it would be wonderful information. I'm not really sure if those salary websites are correct and real life information would be better. :yeah:

Thank you for the helpful information. I agree many times in Savannah it is who you know as opposed to your qualifications. I can't help starting off in Savannah...I want to get a couple of years under my belt then purchase a fifth wheel and travel nurse. That is my GRAND scheme....pretty big huh?

Specializes in ER/Acute Care.
Well, the move will put me closer to family in all three states...I thought there was a nursing shortage going on, how can there be a shortage of jobs? My mother never had a problem getting a job, she just medically retired this year....

There's been difficulty for new grads finding positions since roughly 2008, when the big recession started. We no longer live in the world of selecting jobs and specialities; we often have to take what is offered and be happy to have employment. That's been my experience, and I just finished NS. I also witnessed the same situation with the last cohort in my program back in 2009.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do...but please know that nursing has evolved and will continue to evolve. I'd say keep up on the message boards and to see what the tone of the profession is like. New grads have been complaining about difficulty finding jobs for 3 years here...that's pretty hard to miss. ;)

Specializes in NICU Level III.

Houston has the highest pay for the cost of living in the US.

I have read alot that new grads are having a hard time finding jobs. There has been one question that I have been dying to ask them....What are your requirements in a job? I have known a few people in my lifetime that are the "Shallow Hals" of the world. I'm not trying to be mean, I have just been highly curious.

I know, my mother was a med-surg nurse in Houston. I was floored when she decided to move to remote area in Arkansas for almost half the pay!

Specializes in None yet but hopefully critical care..

You have an awesome goal. I'm between travel nurse and military nurse. I just hate that Savannah is one of your choices and they suck as far as job offers but I'll keep you in formed about this hospital that hires new grads cuz they will have an opening mid march early april.(Memorial University Medical Center is the name of the hospital)

Specializes in SICU/Trauma ICU/CVICU.

The pay in Kansas for an rn is 19. And some change n Georgia ain't good either. I thnk kaansas n missisipi r the lowest paying

The pay in Co is much lower than anywhere else.
