extremely dissapointed
So I applied for a job and was happy to get an interview. However I had to drive 600 plus miles for the interview. I thought the interview went well however halfway through my 600 mile drive back I get an email stating that my application was not considered since the job had been cancelled. I got this email 4 hours after my interview. I am extremely dissapointed. I think its fair to say that am done looking for right now since I still have a job. I guess a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush

salary expectations of a new grad in CT
Am in Kansas n my base pay is 19.81 an hour. That was my new grad rn starting rate. I am forced to work nights to make ends meet. If it wasn't for my night shift differential I would neeed 2 jobs to survive.

Nursing salary
Wichita Ks expect to get paid about 19 an hour and some change as a new grad rn. Houston tx atleast about 30 base pay with 2 yrs experience. I don't think it matters the speciality. New grads usually get paid the same

Sick and tired of the AAS BSN debate
Wow so all u do is clean people and hand out a few meds?? Then that means a CNA could do ur job worse still anyone on the streets could do it. No assessment, critical thinking skills right???????? Its attitude like this that make people not respect nursing or even view it as a profession after all passing meds and cleaning people is all we do.

Sick and tired of the AAS BSN debate
With the economy right now, ur more likely to get a job with a BSN. Atleast thats I hv seen so far.

You dont have to be rich to get out of school with no student loans. Lots of people do it everyday.I went to a state university, worked hard, worked while in school and paid my tuition which was only 2700a semester. It requires prioritization. Thats all.

Our new hire, new grad charge nurse
from my previous post, i stated that older nurses with lots of experience view any young nurse as a new grad and maybe thats whats happening to you. maybe the new bsn grad appears inexperienced due to age. btw she may have had a previous rn experience and just graduated from the bsn program. is this the case? i personally dont consider myself a new grad but the older nurses i work with attribute age to inexperience. i went toa traditional nursing program in a state university and every semester we had to do specific days with the iv therapy team. so the only nurses i know, rns i mean , who havent done this in school probably went to online rn programs like excelsior thats why some states wont let them practice.

Burned Out.
Get student loans and finish your BSN. I dont know if the school u hd attended offered clinical capstone in the last weeks of the program, if they do u r in luck co u choose a specific area u wanna work in and u do clinicals with the same preceptor 36hrs per week for 5 weeks. This way u cn ask the manager of the unit for s job and u will hv a better chance getting hired there since u hv been "working" there. Atleast thats how I got my job in SICU straight out of school. U hv to really impress ur preceptor though.

Reciprocity Advice?
There are states called the walk through states that you can go to their state with your current license get a license within 48 hours or less. Do some research online and find out.

Our new hire, new grad charge nurse
The point I was trying to make here is that RN's unlike LPN's dont have to have a specific certificate that indicates they can administer IV meds, start IV's. Being IV certified means not only can you start IV's but you can also administer IV meds, DC PICC lines, CVC etc. I find it quite hilarious that ur hosp would require one to have 5 supervised documented IV starts before one can do them on their own. Does this guarantee that they will be successful in all other IV starts for the rest of their nursing careers??? I dont know any new grad RN who has never had a chance to start an IV. Unless of course their whole degree was online and they had no clinical experience which is not possible. One thing that the original post doesnt address is how new is the new grad??? I hv bn an RN for 2 years in SICU/Trauma ICU/CVICU and I can tell you all the nurses that are much older and have tons of experience still regard me as a new grad. Some people are just fast learners. My nursing manager graduated just 1 semester before me and he has as much knowledge and experience, he worked as a staff nurse for 2 years fresh out of school in the same unit, in his 20's and he is quite capable of the job. Management would dare not give him this position if they didnt think he could do it esp since I work at a teaching facility, Level 1 Trauma center.

Can a hospital legally force you to get your bsn if you are an adn
Obtaining a license by reprocity is becoming hard too for example CA, you pratically have to send transcripts of your school to them for review, GA as well even though you are an experienced nurse and have a license from other states you still have to meet their educational standards. I would not do Excelsior college, you will have trouble finding a state to let you do the NCLEX-RN without clinical requirements met. And if you did then that would mean you would have to stay in that state forever. Too many risks.

GPA in ADN program
Its not possible to repeat nursing core classes for the purposes of increasing one's GPA. Most colleges would view this as a waste of resources. Nursing programs are in high demand and there's usually waiting lists of students trying to get in. If you struggled with your ADN then MSN would be quite hard to do. I would not rush it. First do your BSN then hopefully you could try the MSN. If its a MSN with a particular speciality like ARNP then you definately need to visit the department within the school you want to go and ask them what to do about your grades because they require atleast a 3.0 GPA in your core nursing classes and we all know an ADN program has all the core nursing classes while a BSN has the extra management classes and research classes that are not considered core thats why both are RN's at the same level. Even if the nursing program was to accept you what about the graduate school, grad schools require atleast a 3.0 GPA and a GRE

Our new hire, new grad charge nurse
rn's dont hv to be iv certified. its inclusive in our education.lpn's are the only ones that need iv certification. plus rn's have the benefit of having hours and hours of clinical experience in the hospital where we start iv's all the time. please dont confuse the two, rns spend lots of hours in the hospital during school dealing with complex patients.

most hospitals have code blue teams who run codes and we all know codes are a team effort and usually the house supervisor runs the code plus physicians etc so that wont be a problem.
