I have been an LVN for 10 years. I started on my RN through Excelsior. Because of a divorce after 20 years of marriage I was unable to complete. I do much better in classroom setting. After the divorce in November was finalized, and my lawyer refused to get me alimony, which was allowed btw, a tornado struck my job and destroyed it. No residents or employees hurt, thank God. Suddenly I am out of a job, income cut by 75% due to divorce and barely make ends meet. Is there any way that I will be able to qualify for assistance in going back to RN school? Where and how would I find this information out? Any feedback or ideas would be great. I am in Texas if that helps any. Thanks for the help in advance. It seems LVN's are being phased out.

Go to your school's financial aid office. They will be able to tell you about school-specific funds available to you. Then, you need to fill out the FAFSA. If you've had his income on your taxes, you may not be offered much, if anything. If you only had your income on your taxes, you will have a better shot at receiving aid for school.

I hope you're able to find what you need.

Fill out the FAFSA before going to financial aid office. They use your EFC( expected family income) to determine what all you are eligible for. I would search local scholarships that aren't income based. Just an idea. Hope it helps.

If your prior tax return included your spouse's income simply file a change in financial status with the financial aid office. There are often grants for females that are displaced financially due to divorce, loss or reduction in income
