Nurses General Nursing

Published

hi im back again lol. just wandering if anyone would know where i can find out where evidence based nursing originated. as u can tell im not real good with the computer and i have tried heaps of different places like google etc but could not find anything so if u know a website or anything that i could check out that would be wonderful. cheers.

When I entered "Origination of Evidence Based Nursing" on Google.com... I pretty much found zip... but there were sites when I searched "Evidence Based Nursing." I'm interested in the process myself.

Good Luck!!

Peace:)

My SWAG is that this originated as part of the push to help elevate nursing to a profession AND as part of the trend in health care in general to support and reimburse research proven interventions*hence associated with the "best" and most cost-effective interventions.

who wouldn't be in favor of evidence based health care? I really mean that. But i feel that insistence on this denigrates the art of nursing and not all worth while interventions can be proven: some are just intuitive, person to person interactions that work because of the unique chemistry between two individuals. I am also alarmed by how bought and sold some research is. Look at new drug research. Often it is underwritten by the manufacturer. If that researcher ever wants money from that source again, what had they better find? Your not done evaluating the research until you know who supported (underwrote) the research.

Just my $.02 worth.

nursing aussie, there is an article titled "Florence Nightengale and the early origins of evidence based nursing" by L.McDonald in the journal Evidence Based Nursing 2001, it is available online at http://ebn.bmjjournals.com

Basically it is using research to support clinical decision making.
