Does your day shift have food days?

I work days and it seems like once a week our night shifts have a food day. This is where everyone brings a dish, they set it up in the back, etc. Day shift never does this. Occassionally someone might bring in donuts and patients' families sometimes drop of bagels as a thank you, but otherwise, we don't have big pot lucks.

Is this a night shift thing? I know they don't have access to the cafeteria like we do. (Honestly I only use the cafeteria when they offer a free meal around a holiday time.) But day shift never does this.

Is it because they are getting up at 5:00 pm instead of 5:00 am and cooking is more commonly done at that time? Is it just my shifts culture? Is it a night shift thing?

My favorite is when our charge nurse will bring in a crock pot full of something to share. One time it was meatballs and someone went to the store at coffee break and bought soft buns and we had meatball sandwiches at lunch.Yummy.

I worked evenings a couple of days ago and we ordered Chinese.

We have them occasionally, nights does too. I'm always jealous though, nights always seems to bring better food than we do. :)

My goodness, lol , a chicken foot? Laughing so hard here!!!!!!!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Where I am from a lot of older people like those things. I never developed that taste but I do enjoy pickled pigs' feet on occasion. I also like pickled eggs but for some reason or another my family gets upset when I eat one.

We may do a pot luck or two during holidays but unless we decide to order out (not many options in a small town)it's pretty much everyone for themselves.

Our night shift tends to do potlucks waaaaay more than days. I don't know if I've ever seen our day shift organize a potluck while night shift can manage to organize a hospital wide potluck.

Hospital wide potlucks are the best.

At my favorite hospital we had every friday night as potluck. sometimes we were told to bring a steak and a sidedish, the security guard would grill the steak. but itn was just for ER. I normally worked in ICU, but if I knew I was going to get pulled to ER on friday's I would bring the chow of the night. I agree that night shift has more potluck dinner. I think it is because the kitchen is closed at night.
