Hi all! I have been a RN for 8 years now. I am 37 years old, married with a toddler. I foresee myself working until I'm 70 years old because I am the bread-winner. I definitely don't want to be a nurse at that age, or even 10 years from now. So I'm looking in to an advanced degree that hopefull will allow me to eventually deal with finances, insurance reimbursement, something besides patient care but still in the hospital. I have a BS in Environmental Health, but my nursing degree is an Associate degree. I have been taking pre-reqs for a MS in Health Informatics/Health Information Management because I can use the BS I already have instead of getting a BS in Nursing. Am I taking the right route or just wasting my time/$? Do I need an MBA or MHA or MSN to be successful instead the MS HIIMS? Just starting to second guess myself. What is the best route to take???

I think it depends what kind of job you want. If you already have a BS then use that for your MS. I wouldn't get a BSN if I already had a BS. Then again look at where you want to be in a few years and their requirements.

Looks like you already know the right track: You don't want to be a nurse, so it doesn't make sense to pile up nursing degrees.

I'm very torn about which degree would be better for me (MS in Health Informatics/Health Information Management vs. MBA). Any advice???
