What does D.O. mean after a person's name? My kids go to a pediatrician's practice that has someone there that sees them and she has D.O. after her name rather than M.D.
I'm curious as to what this means and what kind of qualifications she has?

Doctor of Osteopathy. They are fulll medical doctors who specialize in the spine. We have many that come through our teaching hospital and do rotations in all areas including anethesiology.
Thanks! She really is my favorite Doctor in the whole practice so it's good to know that she is "qualified".

I like DO's. The approach is wholistic, centered on the patient, not the disease, and the seem to have a much more appoachable personality than some of the doc's I've worked with.
