What's the difference between CVICU and CVIU? Is CVIU still considered intensive care?

What is CVIU and what types of patients do they care for? Is this a step down unit?

Probably Cardiovascular Intentive Care Unit and Cardiovascular Intermediate Unit
Patients who have open heart surgery or thoracotomies. ICU would be fresh post-op and intermediate might be the day or two after. Our open hearts go to CVICU first, but then to the PCU (progressive cardiac care unit)
Thanks, Tweety. I get confused with all these acronyms! At my hospital it is CVTR (cardiovascular thoracic recovery) and CVPV (cardiovascular peripheral vascular).
They get confusing. Where I work NICU is Neuro ICU, not Neonatal ICU.......:)
