this is my first visit so bear with me. im an aussie but im hoping that it doesnt matter as we dont have nursing websites like this here so i thought i would write to u lovely ppl (he he). my Q is does anyone know why a child with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia would have a premed for? and do u know what that premed would be? any links to websites etc would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

A premed before transfusions, chemo or what? I work with adults and we routinely premedicate prior to blood transfusions and some antibiotics we give. We usually give adults Tylenol, Benadryl and sometimes SoluMedrol.

In adult oncology work, I've always given an antiemetic before chemo....doesn't always work but I like to think that they'd be much worse without it....not sure if this is what you're talking about though...

thanks heaps for ur responses. im looking for a premed before chemo for an 8year old child. thankyou ortho nutter, i investigated what u said and i think i have a lead here. hello to u to tookie. ps thanku for ur info to fedupnurse, that was quite helpful as well.
