to all the nurses that has cna, or na working under you what do you like the most about you're cna's and what do you dislike about you're cna? and if you knew that any of you're cna's were a member or was posting what would you say to them?

I love my tech, she and I work well together. The only thing I dislike about her is when I ask her to interpret something she often says "The doctor already told her that." I keep explaining to her that I need to hear the pt say he understands what I'm about to do, or whatever it is I need translated.

I worked in a local ALF before going to agency nursing, and frankly...most of the CNA's I work with I have worked with before! That is a breath of fresh air because they were so dedicated to pt care and just awesome!!!!! We worked and still work as a great team!!!

The only thing I didn't like, which happened once in a blue moon, was someone doubting me when I tryed to tell them things were going to be fine and not to panic. Some of my CNA's would freak out at tiny things and insist on a treatment that wasn't ordered or necessary. I would have to take so much time reassuring the CNA and Explaining myself ad nauseum till they realized what I was talking about, and that I was in the right.

For me, that took a few cases of LISTENING to convince them I knew what I was doing...and most if not all believed in my judgement, and admitted they were just freaking out a bit...LOL! It all came down to communication, and yes sometimes that takes time...but with the CNA's...I felt it was worth it, lengthy...but worth it :).

They need to know this stuff too...they are like that pts family in LTC/SNF/ALF...and can get nervous or confused just like I or anyone else can :)...I just have more training on the medical side of it...

Anyway..that would be my only probelm I have had...or the CNA's that ALWAYS called in sick on Fridays..LOL!

you mean payday, or three day weekend ?

No three day weekend..LOL! I was so suprised how often that happened! Typically they would authorize a family member or other staff to pick up their paychecks...all you had to do is write a letter saying they could and call them too and say who is picking up your paycheck. So I guess it was easy to do!

I guess it didn't use to be that way and only that one staff memeber could pick up their check...but then sick people would come in and that was risky to the ALF, so they did this instead. Sometimes you just can't win..LOL!
