Cleveland Clinic or just stay home?

Hi all,

Thank you for the feedback from my last post about out of state licensing. After speaking with a recruiter, I decided to apply next week since the endorsement process wouldn't need to be started unless I get an interview with the hiring manager.

I'm nervous because I have two other interviews set up next week, and one is a second interview. If hired, the pay would be about $10 more than what a new grad makes in Cleveland Clinic. CC is affiliated with the grad school I have dreamed of going to for the past 3 years but I'd have to leave all my loved ones behind and live on my own, which is a daunting possibility for me.

Any and all advice would be helpful, whether through this post or PM. I'd really appreciate it.

How far away from your loved ones would you be if you took the Cleveland Clinic position -- assuming it's on offer? I don't know much about you -- how old you are, for example. But I benefitted enormously from moving away from home for a few years and taking a job in the big city hospital of my dreams. It was good for my career, and good for my personal growth as well. I moved too far away to visit more than once a year, but you might be able to visit more often.

no not an offer yet, just a possible avenue. it would be 8 hour drive or 3 hour flight. I'm fresh out of college at 22 years old. someone I know moved out at that age.

Depends on your future career aspirations. Since you mention grad school, I imagine you do have higher education dreams. I honestly say go for it. I moved about 6 hours from my family at 19 (pre college) and just for personal growth it was fantastic. Being reliant on yourself only can be daunting but super rewarding. And to get to work at Cleveland Clinic with the possibility of it helping your future career and educational goal is even more reason to "grow a pair" and just do it. You got this!

An eight hour drive is doable for a long weekend. A three hour flight -- you might be able to score some deals. The Cleveland Clinic has an excellent reputation. You would learn so much and it would look great on your resume. I think the personal benefits of learning self-reliance and being exposed to diverse situations will be a growth experience as well.

That said, that's my opinion. But you're the one who has to make it work . . . or not.
