Hi I keep getting email notifications that it is almost time to complete my CE requirements for my license renewal but I thought I was all up to date and I can't determine if some of these emails are advertisements or legit. I went on the florida dept of health site (I am licensed in Florida) and I am still confused... I was licensed in April 2010 and my license does not expire until april 2013... can someone please help me understand what my requirements are for this first renewal period? I want to ensure that I am all up to date! Thank you!

CE requirements differ by state. In Massachusetts, you do not need any for your first renewal (which is sometimes only months after your original license, because all RNs renew on their birthdays on even years) because, I believe, it is assumed that your orientation meets the requirements for continuing education. At least that's what I was told when I started working 5 years ago. I have also never had anyone email me reminding me to get my CEUs- it's assumed that if you're an adult, you know your responsibilities and it's up to you to do them.

Here's a link for Florida's requirements:

I wouldn't put too much credit into these emails... I've never heard of anyone officially keeping "track" of someone else's CEUs, that's up to you to do for yourself.

Thank you! Yes that is what I assumed, but when I keep getting pestered with them, in a countdown sequence, I just had to put it out there to everyone to ensure that there wasn't something that I was missing. I did visit the Florida dept of health site to make sure, and I believe that according to that I am good...but I guess just with all the email notices I keep getting I just wanted to get some other opinions! Thanks!

I get those emails too. They tell me I have 7 days left! Well, it is 4/29/12 and my license expires 7/31/12. I do believe that gives me 3 more months.
