Brand new LVN, Two Jobs!!! Eeek!!!

I just passed boards in april. When I got my authority to test, I applied in two places, at a beef packing company that I had previously worked for 6 years, and at the local community hospital. The beef packing plant called me in first..and I like it there as a occupational nurse. The hospital is fun too. It is a rural hospital so I get to see a bit of everything, and I get to work the ER. The problem is.... Im having trouble making a decision between the two. The beef packing company is giving me all my seniority back, and great medical insurance bennies. The hospital will give the opportunity to learn a great deal about patho, ER and IV therapy. My husband is furious that Im going to work in both places soo soon after I got my license. AHHH. What do I do?? They both want me full time. Any advise? Oh by the way... still going to school for RN.. LOL. HELP!

ohhhhhhh toughie..but hey...I will tell you occupational health will give you lots of experience too...which do you like..acute or chronic!?

Occupational will certainly hone in your acute skills..in fact...test you on the fly with any accidents! So if you are loving that...go there!!!!!!!

Hospital, dependant on floor will give you more of the chronic or acute yet not emergency education (of course there are always those 'fun' days where you get it ALL!).

That is how I broke it down..and at the time I was choosing my hubby (paramedic) as doing a four week stent at a shipyard as a occupational medic (nurse got very ill..no other nurses so they asked the paramedic company locally...we are private owned so they said heck yes! LOL!).

Personally I LOVED the occupational that hubby did(I went in to the facility to 'bring lunch' to hubby tons...so lunch took 4-6 hours..LOL!). But looking back..hospital would have given me a wider range...

I don't know...occupational with a company and people you know could be so very very rewarding..and benifits...snatch that while you can! Heck...I get jack in hospital!

Do realize this however...you go occupational it will be tough to switch back to hospital if you so wish...I overcame that (I went LTC)...I worked agency and am right back into the swing after 5 years of being out of hospital in less than two months! :)

First thing to ask yourself, how many other nurses are at the meat apcking plant? Are there enough to train you properly?

What is your back-up like? Especially if an emergency occurs on-site?

And especially if it has been a co-worker of yours in the past?

These are things that you need to consider.
