I'm in a whiny mood cuz I am feeling sooooo burned out that I don't want to go to work tomorrow. I love my job, its just the stupid politics! Everyone is up in arms about the raise we didn't get (but were promised) and people seem so darn edgy lately. Sorry for being so boo hooey:o

One of our local hospitals offered their employees a "daisy day." They needed to talk with the DON (it was a small hospital), and she would give them a day off, with pay. That's exactly what you need. I call the mental health days. Sometimes a day off and spending some time on me, would make me feel ready to be the nurse I wanted to be the next day. Hang in there.

Would this help? ((( :kiss )))

Thanks for the hugs and kisses guys. If I can unclench my jaw I'll be o.k.

I like the "daisy day" idea, but I'm afraid all they offer here is poison oak.

Just call in sick for a couple of days. No big deal.

I worked at a crisis intervention center for awhile. We'd get calls from people with a gun to their head at the other end of the line, people in for domestic abuse, rape, etc. Anyway, we had five mental health days a year. All you had to do was walk up to your supervisor and say you were taking a MH Day. (Paid). No questions asked, no hassle, you were immediately given permission to leave. Too bad management can't give good bennies like that anymore.

Well, I never forgot that. That mental health is just as important as physical health. It's very possible to get the "flu" of the brain and just need a couple days off. So, I call in. Not often. But, you know when you need it. So, if you do, take the time. And guess what? They actually manage to get along just fine without you! :)

Flu of the brain...That's good (and appropriate)

Haven't called in in a year, might start soon.

So I go to work today....and get called off.

Better than floating I guess.

Mental health days are great and a necessity in our line of work. Problem is where I work if you call off , you better come in the next day and act like your sick or you never hear the end of it. Some of the people I work with come in when they are truly ill and coughing all over the place. I work in a NICU which makes this a very bad thing to do. Not only are they passing their germs to the staff, but also the babies. These people are the reason I need mental health days !!

Mental health days are a beautiful thing. A former assistant nurse manager gave me 2 MH days after I was put on as code nurse one night and spent the entire 12 hours off the unit running codes all night. She told me to call after the second night if I needed more time.
