Anyone take an online CPR recertification course?

Hi all,

I just realized my CPR card is expired and was doing a search for CPR classes in my area and a bunch of online ones popped up. They say that they are legit and accredited but it makes me nervous. Anyone else take an online course to renew your CPR card with a company that was legitimate?

Can anyone recommend a good website?

Thanks!!!

YEP!!!

I did find out this was a scam. Thanks, but I already lost my money on them. Why are these CPR classes so dang expensive? $50 to recertify? I found one near home but have to wait until Tuesday to take it. No work until then I guess.

Thanks all for the advice.

And be WARNED of the online scams. I didn't find out until it was too late.

So is it legit or what? I just wrote to another CPR/BLS provider and she wants to charge me $50.00 just to recertify when I already paid these people $30.00!! I will have to call my place of employment on Monday to see if they will indeed accept this card. I do think that they will want me to follow up with some type of hands on training.

Thanks!!

It's only 30, how did you p ay 50? how is it a scam? can you be specific? Thanks.

This appears to have the AHA endorsement on the card. See link: here.

Across the top, you can see "in accordance with the guidelines of the American Heart Association".

"In accordance with the guidelines" isn't the same as "endorsed by" or "authorized by." I still have the booklet from my last AHA CPR recert class -- I could use it to design a class that was "in accordance with the guidelines" of the AHA, but that wouldn't mean I was an authorized/certified instructor, or that my program was legit ...

I suggest you look at the "FAQ" section of the ProCPR website -- it states specifically that they are not affiliated with the AHA, but offer an "equivalent" program. It also states that some employers don't accept their program (although they do offer you a full refund if your employer won't accept your certification through them after you complete the course).

Also, I've never heard of a hospital or school of nursing accepting a program that didn't require a successful check-off of the physical skills by a certified instructor. It's my understanding that there are legitimate on-line programs out there for completing the "cognitive" component of CPR certification (and the ProCPR website also states that they offer such a "blended" program), but you still have to successfully demonstrate the skills in person somewhere, to someone (a certified instructor) in order to be certified ...

Again, I wouldn't spend money on a program (regardless of who is offering it, on-line or "real life") without making sure first that it would be acceptable to my employer or school.

I did an online recert one year which was acceptable for my then place of employment but when I took a job at a hospital they made me redo it. They would only accept certifications from I think the American Heart Asscociation.
