I registered with this organization over a month ago. They took my money, but I have received nothing from them! No welcome to the organization letter, membership card, information about continuing education opportunities, nothing. We get a professional bonus at work for being a member of nursing organizations, so I need some way to prove I'm a member here! Will I get something eventually??? Right now I just feel like I threw my money away.

I think it took about 1.5 months to receive anything, maybe a little longer. In fact it was so long, I was surprised when I received a welcome package.

Did you contact them? I would send an email to let them know you haven't received any materials yet. Not sure why it is taking so long. People are human, and things happen. Let them know you are still waiting. Good luck.

I am, and I got a membership card. I get their magazine every month/every other month (I don't remember...I get so many). How long ago did you join? Sometimes it can take a while for organizations to get you on their list.

I guess the question is: what is the difference between a professional organization and a union? Does National Nurses United provide collective bargaining and representation for nurses at individual hospitals? Or do are they a professional lobby group? The first I do not think hospitals would like but the second is beneficial to the professional nature of nursing. One is focused on economics and the other on the profession.
The nurses at my hospital are represented by the National Nurses Organizing Committee which is a part of National Nurses United. National Nurses United is the largest union and professional association of registered nurses in America. Its purpose is to give registered nurses a national voice and organizing power.
