Does any one know if North Carolina has reciprosity? Can I exchange a NY RN license for a NC license and if so how long does it take

I may eventually want to move there from NY to NC in the next couple of years.

How is the job market there and what areas is best to seek employment?

Do you have a region of NC narrowed down? Other posters have made good points regarding the wage differential. The cost of living is a lot lower here than in NY; there are a LOT of Yankees moving here for the same reason. And if there is a nursing union anywhere in NC I haven't found it yet!

Even if you are not in a "compact state," it should be no big deal to transfer your license. I did a licensure by endorsement from Colorado; just a background check and a few bucks. It took about a month.

What's your specialty/main area of experience?

Don't get me wrong; I love it here. The weather is great, the cost of living is relatively inexpensive, and the job market is generally good especially if you're willing to temporarily compromise a little to get your foot in the door. But it *is* growing like crazy because a lot of people like you and me are discovering it.
