Advice on LVN keeping CNA certification active in CA

Nurses General Nursing

Hello all,

I am currently an LVN & employed as one. My CNA certification is about to expire and I would really like to renew my CNA, although I am not sure if it is possible because I have not actually been employed as a CNA (only as a "caregiver"). Is letting my CNA expire worth fretting about? I guess I feel like keeping it so that I can have something to fall back on, if that makes sense. LVN jobs are limited, and I know of some hospitals that pay CNAs more than LVNs (which I find to be soooo crazy). Thoughts? Is it even possible for a nurse to obtain a job as a CNA, from an employers perspective?

Moot point. Licensed nurses can not hold CNA certification in CA. You can obtain CNA employment with your LVN license if you can find an employer willing to hire you under the circumstances. Many, if not most, will not do so.

I was thinking the same. The scope of practice for an LVN encompasses that of a CNA, so even if it were possible there would be no point.
