I wanna receive my A.A in nursing but on my degree audit at BC it says that I'm in the Associate in Science nursing

How can I change my major to A.A in nursing ?

Do i graduate by completing the 60 hours mentioned in the link above ?

Your link appears to be for a general AA. I believe Broward only offers an ASN; it's the only nursing degree mentioned on their website. You're going to want those sciences anyway.

edit: Spoke too soon! Waddayaknow, there is an AA for nursing. Do you have an advisor? They should be able to change your major for you.

LOL

read my other thread about McFatter, maybe you could help me

Just read your other thread. Hmmmm. I'm in PBC so have limited knowledge of programs further south. I did have a fellow student in pre-req's that had a horrible, horrible experience at BC. Of course, you will always hear more from the folks that have a bad experience than those that have a good one.

I also want to start working ASAP, but the evening/weekend program at PBSC is the best choice for me...

LPN's take the NCLEX-PN, right? I'm wondering why I don't see any pass rates listed at the FL BON website... Education Information - Florida Board of Nursing - Education Information

Wish I could be more helpful. :( Hopefully someone else will chime in....

i can only answer the first question, in order for you to change your degree you have to see an advisor, i don't think you can change it by yourself, on the second question i'm not too sure but i think you have to complete the 60 hours

i believe there is a AA in nursing when you complete the 60 hrs. (nursin pre reqs & gordon rule courses etc.)

The ASN is when you get the RN, so im not sure if your degree audit says that because its your ultimate goal ...

Hey,

There is no such thing as an AA degree in Nursing, or at least I have never heard of it. The AA degree is considered an Associate in Arts degree, not for nursing. However, you can graduate with your AA degee and pursue a nursing degree as well. If you are in the nursing program I don't think you can change your major while you are actively in the program. If you want your AA degee for whatever reason I would suggest graduating with the degree prior to entering nursing school if you haven't entered currently. I received my AA degree prior to as well. Most of the time if you plan on entering a BSN program or RN-BSN you would need the classes anyway. Goodluck!

Hi Lex! I read your comment above, You said that you pursued your AA prior to NS. The AA is general education right? I would like to get my general education out of the way while I wait for my sister to turn 16. She's 12 now. Then I can go on to start pre-preqs. But let me ask you something, did you have a choice between the Associate of Arts and Associate of Science Degree? Which one is best?

I am planning to go to Palm Beach State College for everything. I hope to enter the LPN and bridge over to NS. But that would be after the general education and pre-reqs.

hello lina.561,

the aa degree that i received was an associate in arts degree which will transfer to any florida public university. it is a combination of general education courses and university transfer program courses. so if you plan on pursuing a bachelor or a nursing degree and you know what schools you plan on pursuing it with then you can tailor your general education classes around that particular program, but in your case nursing. you would still need to complete your prerequisites but by the time you complete your prerequisites you would need maybe a few more classes to complete your aa. for the lpn program i don't think you need to do any general education classes because it is a certificate program not a degree program. however, for the nursing degree you would. your best would be, to get a better understanding, to speak with an advisor so they can better assist you with choosing your general education classes and prerequisites or maybe for a better understanding. anymore questions feel free. hope this helps.

Hi lex thank you for responding to me :)

I did go to the College today to speak with an advisor, they are booked up until the 30th! Seesh. I understand the LPN is not a degree program and I would like to bridge over to RN from the LPN program, they have this option at the college. My local community college just changed to a State college. They offer BS now.

Would it be safer to just get AA in case things change? AA is an AS degree but more because it has the option to transfer to a university? Am I right?

Can I do this AS degree before I do my pre-reqs?

Anytime! Do they allow walk-ins? The decision is ultimately yours, but an AA degree isn't an AS degree. An AS degree is an Associate in Science and an AAS is Associate in Applied Science. If you go into nursing, at the community college level, you would get an AS degree.

Okay. I thought they did walk ins...IDK. Thank you for your input. AS Degree it is. I really would like to get this done NOW. General Education. You said 60 hours?
