U.S.A. Florida

Hi Everyone.

Thought I would go ahead and get this thread started for those of us applying to the UNF FALL 2014 cohort.

Deadline is May 1!

Where is everyone in the process?

Hi everyone! This is my first time applying to UNF and I'm so nervous! I'm worried I won't even get an interview!

This thread hasn't been very active. I am hoping that those of you who applied got some good news on Monday and maybe I will get to meet you in June.

I would love to hear from others who are going to be interviewing!

Wooooooo!! So exciting!!! Congrats on the interview!! If you have the chance to do a mock interview, do it!!! They really go out of your way to make you feel at ease.

Unfortunately, since I am not currently a UNF student, I can't do the mock interview. I have been having friends and family members try to help me- but it isn't quite the same. I was actually hoping that there would be others on here who got accepted for interviews who would like to get together and maybe get to know one another and go over some past questions together. I don't know if it would help or not but I thought it might make us less nervous.

You haven't heard back from USF? I will tell you the only time you will hear from them is when your application goes to "committee" and when you either get wait listed, accepted or denied. Best of luck to you! :)

ohh ok thx, yeah the deadline is May 30th I think, so I guess about 3-4 weeks after that? So it will be right around the time of the UNF interview. Btw... Did everyone get an interview? I'm 10:30 am, so hope to see you all..

Hi, everyone! I've applied to the bsn (basic) program. My interview is set for 8:30am! I'm pretty nervous, as I've never been through a real interview. Any tips from last year's interviewees? I'd love to attend UNF's mock interviews, but I'm not a current student.

Hi! I didn't want to leave you hanging. I saw your post but we are SO busy in the program that I really don't have a lot of time to come back on here and browse how everyone is doing. CONGRATULATIONS on the interview!! I remember that time so so well -- especially since it was only, like, 3 months ago!! :)

I can tell you that they go out of their way to keep you calm and relaxed. You will come into a room with a couple of interviewers and between 4 - 5 of your potential candidates. You will be asked a few questions surrounding your decision to become a nurse and your fit for the program, basically. I wish I could tell you what they are looking for, but even after you get in - they don't tell you!! You will meet some of the current students first and they will be available to answer any questions you might have.

I can tell you that it has been a general consensus that you do NOT want to always be first, and you do NOT want to always be last to answer a question. You definitely don't want to overbear the interview and talk over your fellow candidate. Respect and courtesy while others are talking are highly valued in this program, and the professors are visibly annoyed when they do not happen (as they should be). It is so important that you can work together with your fellow candidates. You will all need each other to succeed once you are in the program. At the end of the day, just be yourself. And do not be too discouraged if you find yourself on the waitlist. There are a great many of us from the waitlist and we are all super bright and equally as matched.

You will love it here. It is hard work, but the atmosphere is awesome.

I interviewed at UNF. Have a question ready to ask them too. Like HelloNurse said, they do try to make you feel comfortable and it's not as bad as you're probably thinking. I was so nervous and afterwards, was so relieved and satisfied with their interview process. Don't always answer first, and don't always be last. They want to see that you can work in a group setting.

Hi everyone!

I am a current student that will be helping all of you through your interview process. I know this is such a scary, exciting, and very nerve-wrecking experience, but just think! Soon you may have the opportunity to join our wonderful family as we continue our journey into becoming nurses! You chose the right school. You studied hard. You (hopefully) received your interview invite. You're all excited and ready to go ahead and declare your status as a UNF nursing student and you can't wait to purchase your brand new official scrubs! But wait! You have your all important interview coming up and you don't know what to expect! Well, be calm my friends because I'm going to give you just a few tips and insight into what to expect so that hopefully you truly will be able to enjoy this moment.

1) Make eye contact. Simple, right? But don't focus solely on the person to whom you are answering. It is important to show that you are able to communicate with everyone in the room. That's a key point in nursing. You aren't only managing your patient; you're managing every family member, friend, staff, whomever may be in the room! You need to show that you are confident in your answers and not afraid to make eye contact while doing it.

2) Introduce yourself to everyone you meet. There are a few reasons for this. The most important for you is so you can begin friendships with the other hopefuls that may become your nursing family! Team work is huge. Most things in this program are team efforts. Make friends as soon as you can so you can build trust. HINT: It is also nice to know the names of your fellow hopefuls in your interview group. During the interview process make sure you communicate to each other via names, not "like she was saying." Also, make sure you greet each interviewer. It shows your professionalism; that's a key aspect to our program. A nice handshake would also be nice :) After all, they are taking away their own time so that they may help you reach your goal!

3) While answering questions, be sure to use examples. Don't go into too much details; there are a lot of people to interview in a short time. But how can you really answer a question about your workmanship without using an example?

4) Most importantly, BE YOURSELF! I know this is the hardest part, but they are really looking to see how you compose yourself under stress. There's do denying that this is a very stressful profession. It's important to be able to keep calm and continue doing what you are to be doing.

AND, don't be afraid to ask questions!

Well, that's about it! If there are any specific questions you would like me to answer, then ask away! Just please remember that UNF nursing staff has been known to watch over these pages. If you have any questions about staff, this may not be the best place to ask unless it's a generic question. I'll be watching the page for any questions before your interview and I'll be on after the interviews as well. You will most likely know your status as of Monday! I look forward to meeting you guys (even though you don't know who I am) and I wish you all the best of luck! I hope to see you join our family!
