Anyone else applying? :clown:

I am applying for UCF traditional BSN program fall 2013. I don't feel as confident as I would like to feel. I have an overall 3.66 gpa, 3.5 prereq, but my teas score is (83.3%) in the 90th percentile. Should I retake the teas test or not? What other nursing program can you guys advise me? Any comment is welcome.Thank you

Personally, I took the TEAS test two times because I felt that if I didn't make it into the program, I didn't want to regret not having done more. My overall GPA is a 3.67 because most of my grades were from UF at a time when the grading was based on the 94-100 scale and "plusses" were given. So basically, if I got a 93 in a class, then I got a B+ which now translates into a B with 3 points credit, as opposed to it being an A with 4 points credit. I did get a 4.0 in all of my prerequisite courses, and a 92.7 on my first TEAS test, but I felt the only thing I could possibly improve would be my TEAS score. There was nothing more I could do for my GPA. I got a 93.3 the second time around, which isn't too much of a change from the first score, but when I submitted my application, I felt complete peace of mind that I had done everything I could possibly do to make myself competitive.

Regarding other nursing programs, if time is not a factor for you, I would look at some of UCF's concurrent programs at local community colleges. They cost less money, are conveniently located, are fully accredited, have exceptional NCLEX pass rates, and you still receive the same degree that you would at the main campus. It just may take one or two semesters longer. You can even start to work as an RN after you get your ASN and pass your NCLEX while you finish your last semester or two! For me, the ABSN program is the only real option I have because I plan to take a year off from work to complete it, and taking more time off than that would be too much of a loss of income for my family. Good luck to you!!! :)

UCF accel program was REALLY unorganized. I was in it may 2012-oct 2012, until I dropped out/took medical withdrawal due to a medical problem as well as failing patho and pharm. It was a MAJOR challenge to have any warning to know what your next week was, let alone further than a few days. The easiest way to describe it was that it seemed like the program was BRAND NEW and they were working out the kinks........ but obviously that isn't the case. There was a lot of guessing games and unknowns. It was overall good. The teachers were mostly good with a few stellar ones. I couldn't believe the struggle to do what they wanted even before the program started. Fortunately many of my friends were strong enough to finish, despite the extra challenges. Anton was really helpful.

I also wanted to add that we started at about 60 and I believe 30 something graduated "on time" and about 10 dropped down from accelerated to regular.

Hi jcmm,

Thank you very much for your advise, it mean a lot to me.

What I was told from the information session I attended at UCF is that to be competitive you need a 3.5 cum. and your prereq GPA should be higher. TEAS should be at least an 85. Perhaps retake some of your lower graded prereqs and yes, retake the TEAS.
