Seminoles unite!

U.S.A. Florida

I was going through the replies for the introductions and noticed all of the Seminole's. That's great! I graduated from FSU in 1999 and loved it. I'm wondering, to the current students, is Dr. Flannery still there?

Are there any Florida Gator's out there? They also have an excellent nursing program ... not too sure about their football team ;) (I know, I know ... we're not looking too hot either).

I see you're in Tampa. I'm thinking of moving there after graduation. Where do you work? Any suggestions on places to avoid?

Todd - I first started out in the CSU at Tampa General when I moved here from Jacksonville. TGH is an excellent hospital with infinite opportunities to educate yourself on a daily basis ... especially in the CSU. THe politics of the hospital are a little shady (once again, especially in the CSU) and the pay is not that competitive ... but like I said, it's a great hospital to learn at. St. Joseph's is a pretty good facility, not a level one trauma center, but does some open heart cases. Brandon Regional is a Columbia Hospital that just opened a heart unit last year, and I hear they pay pretty well ... sorry if you were looking for more general nursing unit's but open heart is my specialty.

I'm not too sure about any of the hospital's in St. Pete. I know there's a pretty good children's hospital across the bridge. You'd be surprised how infrequently resident's of Tampa go to St. Pete and vice versa.

But, since you've yet to start school, don't worry about the places down here! Just focus on passing those classes! :) And if you want to further your degree after you've worked a while, try to keep your core science classes A's and B's (A&P, pharmacology, bio, etc.) ... it'll help a lot with graduate admissions. Good luck!

Not a Seminole here, but wanted to make a post to bring us up to 19. Pennsylvania is the busiest state so far, with one more post than us. LOL

Anyway, it's true. I live in St. Pete and rarely get to Tampa. But I bowl in Tampa because there is a good all gay bowling league there and I can't make the gay league here in St. Pete because of work.

Plus Tampa has the best Performing Arts Center around so I go there for broadway shows.

Not that I'm fishing for posts, but I have heard good things about Tampa General. I have a friend who crosses the bridge to work in the burn unit and other ICU's and likes it.

They've had their fair share of problems, but seemed to get their act together the last several years, are making money, are well budgeted and on solid ground.

TGH would probably be my choice to work if my current job doesn't work out. But I've been here for 11 years, so it's working out just fine. LOL

Looks like we've lost the race with Pennsylvania! :chuckle

Tweety ... are you going to see "The Producers"? My husband and I are members of the PAC and we get notices in the mail. I can't wait to see that! The last show I saw was 42nd Street ... had to sit way up on the 3rd balcony because every show was sold out. It was still a great performance!

Hi Everyone,

I am in Daytona Beach and work at the Reginonal Oncology Center. I am active in the Oncology Nursing Society and wondering if there were any other ONS nurses out there. The pay scale here is starting to go up. It was $11.51 an hour when I started in 1996. It is slowly going up. Have a great day.

wyndwalker, Hi!

versatile_kat, spouse and I were subscribers to TBPA for several years and had great seats. But missed so many shows because of our schedule that we decided not to renew.

Can't wait to see the producers though! I'm so there. I saw 42nd St. before and loved it. Also going to see Urinetown, seems interesting, plus the name is intriguing. :)

Thanks for all the info. Only two years left, so I'd like to have some idea where I'm going after graduation. I'm not really even set on going to Tampa, but it is still an option.

Hey, everyone - not a Seminole here but new to FL. I moved to Pensacola from NC in Mar. '02. I am quite dismayed at the terrible pay in FL - good grief, I made almost this much when I was in WA state 13 yrs ago! sheesh.... Bible Belt needs to catch up to the rest of the states.

Anyway, I'm an L&D nurse, 17 yrs. in OB, 21 yrs. in nursing. At present doing traveling for better pay; it's fun, too! Anyone else a traveler?

Just wanted to say hi to folks from my "new" state!
