Salaries in Florida

U.S.A. Florida

Hey all!!:roll

I am currently living in Louisiana. I will graduate as an RN in May 2004 and would love to start my nursing career in Florida!! My main question is what kind of money do nurses make in Florida? I have been unable to get any sort of idea off the internet. What are pay ranges and starting wages for new RN's?? Any info would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!:D

all i have to say is this. when you are out of school and start working as a nurse in the real world you will be humming a new tune.

i thought the same way when i was in school... i wanted to change the world. well, their is a reality check & you will soon find out.

my area is port st. lucie & stuart.

lpn salary;

hosp. 11.88 - 12.50 an hr - nurse to pt. ratio 6-12:1 :crying2:

ltc 13.50 - 15.00 an hr. - nurse to pt. ratio 22-30:1 :crying2:

i am moving back to nj were the pay rate is 10.00 an hr. higher.

i preform nursing duties at any job, i work for the $$$ not for charity!!

fl needs to put the crack pipe down!!! and start paying nurses what they deserve!!

i agree with you guynurse. i am a student and i will be glad once i am done with college, but i expect to be compensated for my skills, especially when i get experience! i know several veteran nurses who are making less than 30 buck an hour. florida pay rates are crazy! i will work in florida for about one year and if i am getting paid dirt, i will move!

p.s i am not getting into nursing for the money. i didn't even know nurses make as much as they do in some other states. i just feel like i want to be paid fairly for my passion.

Tweetie . . .and you are where in FL?

Starting here is $15, in Tallhassee is $16, but I heard in Tampa with 6 mos experience you can expect around $25.

Thanks,

Phil

that sounds good !!

i agree with you it is soooooooooo bad here in florida and cost of living what a joke . no more less expensive here then in pa

We need to stop accepting the crap is right . Better wages are needed in Florida NOW !! I"ll work the system til it is dry if I have to but I am not working for so little . I am coming from $64,000 as a LPN . You RN's should be ashamed to work for soooo little .:uhoh21: :angryfire

64,000 as an LPN???? where do you work and how much over time did you have to do?

Greetings from South Carolina, y'all!

Any info on RN wages for central Florida, say in NICU with 3-1/2 yrs. exp.?

Also, anyone here work at Shands in Gainesville?

If it's any consolation, we South Carolina nurses aren't exactly rolling in $$$$$, either!

Wow,

The pay should be a lot higher seeing how much crap you go through just to get licenced

So, does anyone have a "plan" or any realistic ideas on who to talk to or what to do about increasing wages and salaries in this state? Obviously the paper pushers and those who have no idea what nurses actually do as far as responsibility (life and death, disease, and violence exposure, risk of being sued) have the say on what nurses are payed. How can this be changed and how can nurses get fair pay to those with similar degrees and similar job responsibilities? Any "reasonable" ideas out there?

Specializes in CICu, ICU, med-surg.

How about a "Nurses Day at the Capitol" during the legislative session? I work for the state and it seems every county, city and special interest has their own day at the capitol. Why not nurses??? These sorts of activities get a lot of attention from the legislatures, especially if the turn-out is high. Could potentially get the attention of some high ranking officials.

I don't really see that salaries are going to start increasing over night, but perhaps a big public event is what's needed to start the ball rolling. Maybe this is something the Florida Nurses Association could work on.

Just an idea...
