has anyone enrolled in the inaugural accelerated bsn class that started january 2009? what are your impressions so far?

thank you,

topcat

hi everyone, i am very anxious to apply to this accelerated bsn, but i have read some negative post about the remington college, such as no accreditation, not able to find a job after graduation, expensive school etc...

i am very confused and don't want to jump into a deep well.

does anyone know anything about this program or the remington college?

this accelerated program seems fairly new.

any insigth would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

i wouldn't worry about things you can't control. there are other things to worry about? :typinghave you seen the schedule? it's very challenging.

accreditation is from ccne:

its a brand new school, accredidation does take a little bit. i'm not sure most knows what its like to go through an accreditation. they have applied for the accreditation, its a process...they wil have their site visit from the accreditting agency in nov. shortly they will find out about the accreditation. from my impression of them when i visited the facilities, its a beautiful school, the staff is top notch. i dont think they will have an issue.

so, what is the big deal with being accreditted:

- alot of the scholarship for nurses ask that the school be accredited by

ccne or nlnac.

- most travel agencies want hire nurses from accredited schools.

- some higher degree schools accept degrees from only accredited schools.

rn license is different:

you can sit for the nclex, rn license is the main goal.

most states only require that you have a current licensed if you wish to apply for their license.

as far as finding a job. remington students clinicals are at the major hospitals. additionally, some of the hospitals position that are open for new rn requires a bsn degree.

i would love to go there but the travel was my issue. good luck with your choice.

hi ashleygil,

thank you for replying to my post. as you said, the goal is to pass the nclex (rn license) after all in the state of florida and may be transfer later on in my state, texas. personally i am very positive about this college, and your advice is what i needed to make this decision, my application will be sent this friday.

does anyone have some thoughts about housing and the cost of living in lake mary?

thanks

Hello NATO,

I visited the school and drove all around lake mary and sanford looking for inexpensive and secure housing close to the school. I found that Hidden Village condos were nice, they are individually owned, in clusters of 4, with lots of tall shady trees. It is about 5-8 minutes down the road from the school. If I get accepted I will be looking for a roommate. A two-bed, two-bath is between $700-900. Pool, some have screened in porches, and some are well renovated with washer and dryer. You can see some options on craigslist...and i got the number for the maintenance/manager who said he could give me the scoop on any other rentals that become available closer to the date I will move (July 1st or 15th). I hear people like to rent to nursing students so maybe a discount on the rent would be possible.

If I get in and anyone from Remington is looking for a place...contact me if you'd like a roommate. SWF/26/feline.

Thank you for the info. Does anyone know how many spots there are in the program?

i think the inaugural class has 17-19 students and i think they are looking to fill approx 25 spots this time around...

Hi all,

I hope I will be among this July group. I finally sent my application last Friday. Can someone know a student from the January cohort? I am just curious to check if Remington really started this accelerated bsn program last spring or if the class has been canceled. I also called CCNE and the Florida board of nursing to verify some information, and was satisfied because without a doubt this school will soon be accredited. I am just praying to be accepted into the program.

Thanks.

i also sent my application in last week and am hoping to get into this program. i remember hearing somewhere on these boards that the program in january was postponed to the class that will be starting in july. i guess the best way to know for sure is to call or email and confirm. it is great news to here that they will receive some accreditation, but i am still concerned because they are not nlnac accredited and we might have some issues if trying to get licensed in another state.

Hi princessO,

Do not worry about being accredited by NLNAC. From my understanding this school has applied for accreditation with CCNE which is an agency similar to NLNAC and most of the program I know, for example the University of Texas at San Antonio, Houston, etc.. are accredited with CCNE, so I personally don't see the problem to be on the CCNE waiting list for accreditation. Nursing is one of the few professions with more than one accrediting agency.

NLNAC is the first accrediting agency for traditional nursing program(associate degree and lower) and exists since 1952.The CCNE on the other hand, is kind of new 1998 and much focused on undergraduate degree (BSN programs) and above (Master programs).

I don't know your state, but I am confident that after earning a RN licensure in the state of Florida, you can transfer your license in your state by endorsement, you can also check if your state is not part of the compact state.

Thanks.

hello! i just wanted to let you all know that when I visited the school I saw actual students in class. They just got their uniforms (white polo shirts and purple scrub pants...tapered at the ankle) the class started in Feb...I wonder if the July class will be pushed back too?

I am definitely concerned about finding a job after, but there are so many routes to take... I am optimistic and annoyingly persistent.

i hope to hear soon!!!!! soo nervous! but I do have a backup plan.

thank you NATO for looking into the accreditation.

hello all,

i am also concerned about finding a job right away after the program if not i wouldn’t be killing myself and living my family to relocate in florida. we all are in the same boat eager to be contacted as early as possible.

does anyone know when the school will contact accepted applicants?

thank you roses623 for your input.

Thank you Nato and Roses for the important info! I tried to contact the school today to ask them a few questions but no one answered the phone. The second deadline is sometime in June so I am guessing they will let us know before then. Did you guys get your fingerprinting and background check done yet?

yes, i completed the background check online it was quick and they emailed me a copy quickly, but i think the original is sent to the school. I also got a fingerprint card from Remington when I visited and had my interview which I took to the local police station for prints ($5) and sent off with the $35 processing fee. I also, had to send the authorization form to Remington. In total I think it cost over $100 for all the fees associated with the application. i got it all in by the 15th. I emailed recently and they haven't gotten back to me, I think they are just inundated with apps, when i last spoke with them last week they said they had received lots.
