Ok, so I have been trying to get into the LPN at Atlantic Vocational since aug. took the teas test and only passed the science... go figure the hardest subject(for me at least) so anyhow, classes are filling way to fast and my next rescheduled date for the teas is in a few weeks. By then, classes will be filled till June 2010. Im currently unemployeed and WIA approved for classes but I can not afford to wait so long. So I have been looking into other alternatives. My goal is to become an RN then neonatal nurse. I guess what i need to know is instead for taking classes at BCC is there another way of getting into a program that i can transition to the BCC RN program????? I spoke with a rep at another school and she said the surgical technology can transition in the RN program? Has anyone gone this route. thanks for taking the time to read. I plan on going to BCC on Monday just thought I would throw it out there.... thanks again

Hmm, I guess this is a possible new trend. I would call the RN college of your choice and speak to an advisor. I googled ST to RN. I guess this is done in certain parts of the world and US. I noticed the LPN and ST programs are similiar till 3rd or 4th quin.

doing a search again.. (I guess its not new)

thank you, I'll research that! Anyone with this same problem?

Specializes in ER, OR, PACU, TELE, CATH LAB, OPEN HEART.

and once you become a ST and start working the hospital will pay for you to go to school for RN through employee tuition reimburesement program. Some even pay up-front as long as you get a C or better in course work. Good Luck. ST is an important postition.

Why are you opposed to taking classes at BCC? (Btw, give us some credit. We're BC now! :D) If you're looking for the RN program there, you only have two options. Theres the program starting in may, which has applications closing in mid january. Or theres the one starting in august, where applications close in may. I seriously doubt you're going to have any chance at making it in time for may if you haven't already started the process. And you said June 2010 would be too late.

Also, I don't think you can transition into the normal RN program. Because acceptance is based soley on GPA, and it would be hard to place you in a seat without those specific classes. There is another option, transition wise, which is the LPN-RN program. It starts in may, and applications are accepted through march. But I don't think ST is going to get you in, as the program specifically requires an LPN state license.

If you're willing to take prereqs at BC, it's possible to make it in for the august program, although it would be tight. BC only requires 4 classes before entering the nursing program. English, Chemistry, and A+P I+II. It would be a pretty rough semester for you, but I do know students who have taken A+P I in the first half of the semester, and A+P II in the second half. During the summer no less. It's not for everyone. But as far as I know, its you're only option unless you're willing to wait until 2011. In that case it might just be worth it to get a certification in something else so you can be working in the meantime.

Additional side note: I'm still a pre-nursing student, and I don't know what the teas test is. I assume that it's similar to the hesi entrance exam, but I could be wrong. Anyways, BC is requiring all students to pass the hesi to be considered for admissions starting with the August 2009, so either way...you're going to have to pass the test.

What I'm telling you comes both from personal experience and the information posted on the website. (http://www.broward.edu/nursing/nursing/AdmissionInfo/page8599.html) But it's possible I could be wrong. So go ahead and talk to an advisor at the school to be sure.
