Prenursing Student looking at school options

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this, I just really need some help ):

So when I was a junior in high school I got accepted into a dual enrollment program at MDC which left me graduating high school with over 50+ college credits. During my time there I had some family problems and my grades suffered for it, so even though I passed most of my classes a few were with Cs.

It has been five years since then and I am looking into go to MDC's nursing school. I spoke to the Deans of nursing and students and they both told me that it is impossible for me to retake the classes I have Cs in despite how long it's been and how unlikely it will be that I will get into the program with those grades.

So my question is basically are there any other nursing schools in South Florida? Every other one I've looked into, like FIU for example, seems even more competitive and I feel like if I can't get into MDC's nursing school I am screwed.

The best advice I have is to google and call schools in the area around you. You may not to be able to retake the classes but you could take more classes to raise your GPA.

You are in a vulnerable position right now and that makes you a prime target for the predatory for-profit schools like South University in West Palm Beach, Fl which is in your area. Go to the collegescorecard.edu.gov site to evaluate schools. Palm Beach State College has two schools that offer BSN degrees and there are others but the most important metric in evaluating a school is do they do what they say they will do and have credible graduation and retention rates. For profits spend more money on marketing and recruitment than on educating students. They also have few standards-that's a red light and they require their students to sign to an arbitration agreement which voids your right sue them when and if they over promise and don't help you to be successful. Go on line, read student reviews and know while some are from disgruntled people, most are competent and honest. Be extremely careful with your choice as you have a lot to lose if it doesn't work out.

You always have an option to repeat classes...just be prepared and know that it may effect your Fin Aid...to name a few school there's..Broward College, Barry University, FIU, PBSC, South U, Concorde, Chamberlain(yes its private like South U and Barry and expensive but they are all accredited). Avoid schools that are not accredited...you dont want to be stuck in a position where you cant further your education or cant get hired...also agree you want to avoid for profit (i.e. Keiser) as much as possible...they dont prepare their students enough to pass the boards...Good blessings on your journey..

I do agree with your advice; however, Keiser is no longer for-profit ( | Miami Herald )They are actually a well respected school and currently ACEN accredited at 10 campuses ( Search ACEN Accredited Nursing Programs )

Their tuition costs are quite outrageous, but if a community college is not an option, then an expensive school just might be in your future. I have done some research and I have decided to attend Keiser myself in Tampa (starting next month, yay!). Of course I would have preferred to go to a public college to save money, but I am in the same boat as you too (earned C's in classes years ago). I have come to terms that I will be in debt for a few years, but I am young and have no children so I think I will be ok. :)

That is good to know that they are non-profit...I only know about the FTL campus a few students had a difficult time passing and finding employment...but everyone has different experiences...Congrats and best of luck to you:)
