Hi.

We are heading down to Ocala next month to tour the city and hospitals. We will be moving a few months after that. We want to rent instead of buying to make sure we like the area 1st and not get sucked into some place we don't like.

Does anyone have any info on Marion Oaks in Ocala? Best middleschool and high schools? Best place to work?

Would appreciate your help!

Thanks a bunch!

No one live in/near Ocala????:)

I'm not in the Ocala area but grew up about an hour from there. I'm not familiar with the particular area you're asking about in but didn't want you to feel ignored. I do know it's a lovely area.

I hope someone can answer your questions soon.

Ocala is growing like mad crazy. I live 30 miles south of there and attend some classes at CFCC Ocala campus, but only if I have to. The traffic is too much for me, but much better than Tampa or Orlando lol. They have been doing a lot of road improvements, on St. Rd 200 but are finishing up I think. Except where the part of 200 where MArian Oaks is located, its a long 2 lane road.

Anyways I don't actually live in Ocala so I don;t know how much help I am. But there is more than just Ocala, if you wanted to probably spend a little less in renting, Marion County is pretty big, and they just built a new development almost right across from it, some spanish name, it looks fancy.

The area is great if you like golfing or horseback riding. But there are other places much cheaper to rent from than a golf course community.

Good luck!

Hi There,

I live in Ocala. It can be a great place to live. However, I would strongly reccommend NOT living in Marion Oaks. It has become a heavy drug/crime area. Its beautiful out there, but they have recently had alot of crime. To the point the sheriff's office has had to set up a gang patrol unit. The SW area is nice, thats where I live. It is close to everything, and I am only 5 minutes away from the hospital where I work.

Depending on what you are wanting to rent, there are plenty of housing choices. If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.

Chris

Hi,

I live in Ocala too. Like the previous poster stated, please avoid Marion Oaks. It has really turned into a high crime rate community.

Check out www.marionso.com It is the link to the Sheriff Dept for the county. You can check with them regarding neighborhoods and crime rates.

Hi, I moved SW of Ocala, you will be 18 miles from"the end of the road" in yankee town where you can drop your boat, or see the ocean , must beautiful sunsets, hills and nice good peple. Houses in this area for rent are not expensive. then you have the Farms, if you are into it I know nurses in the farms. there is a beautiful place call Dunnellon some parts belong to Marion County others to Levy (less taxes). I think is great....not for night life, hospitals Shands 45 minutes, monroe. Ocala Regional, 7 Rivers, and a beautiful State Park Rainbow Springs.

i worked temporarily at west marion hospital in ocala and found it a nice hospital. they were planning an addition but i don't know if it's still in the works with the economy in the tank in fl and the country. i did think that the nurse patient ratio on the floors were too high, 1:8 with the cna 1:12. the nurses all worked 12 hours shifts, with very little support staff. it is a small hospital with growth all around it. the pay is very low, 21-22/hour. the nurses i worked with supplemented their income by working elsewhere in specialty units, a total shame. good luck in ocala!:wink2:

I used to live in Ocala when I was younger. I loved it. A matter of fact when I moved to Fla from Cali we moved to Marion Oaks and that was in the early 80's. It was very nice then. But just as the other nurses stated Marion Oaks has gone down hill. Stay away.:nono:

IF I am not mistaken Marion Oaks is in Bellview. Which is very close to Ocala. There is not much night life there, but it is a great place to retire or raise a family in my opinion.

They had pretty good schools when I was in school there. I am 30 now so things may have changed, but i visit often and it appears to still have a pretty good school system when I visit.

I no longer live there, but I have family there and yes the pay at the local hospitals there are very low.....

Good luck to you and welcome to the Sunshine State:nuke:
