Miami-Dade College-Classes Full??

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello all,

I'm currently doing my pre-reqs at Miami Dade College for their A.S. in Nursing, and some of my classmates were telling me they that the Class of 2010 was cut down to size, with all those cut being deferred to the class of Fall 2011, which is now considered full.

They also heard that applications turned in by the cutoff date next year (May 2011) would be for consideration for the class of Fall 2012.

I was shooting for the Fall of 2011, and this news would obviously set me back at least a year. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, just a setback, and all I've got is time...

However, any additional information on this situation would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am sorry, I do not understand your question that much. Is this in reference to the rumor that there is a waiting list? In that case, there is no waiting list so perhaps what you heard is another rumor. Selections for Fall 2010 are being completed this week, therefore, some of them are not final...

Want to clear it up for me? Hope I can help.

Sorry, looking back, I realize I never actually asked a question...Not enough sleep last night, not enough coffee this morning :D

I was indeed referring to a waiting list. I was told that the waiting list is full through 2010, and that those who sent applications in recently (April?) will only be able to start in Fall 2011 at the earliest. You're saying there is no such list for MDC?

I had never heard of a waiting list before, but several of my classmates were treating it as common knowledge...thought I'd see what everyone on here had to say.

Additionally, I'm going to advising next week, so I'll get their take on it as well. Thanks for attempting to wade through my lack of clarity hehe

LOL No worries. Happens to me all the time. No, there is no waiting list at all. Been hearing that since before I wanted to be a nurse. It is sad because that waiting list thing causes a lot of students to become discouraged, but it is not real. I understand your confusions because I had several classmates come up with pretty random ideas about acceptance.

Selections are made per semester. In other words, if you don't get in, you have to keep applying until you do. This depends on the applicant pool each semester. If you are applying for a starting date after this Fall's 2010 deadline(In your case, 2011), then selections will not just be based on GPA anymore. It will be based on Science GPA(40%) and TEAS score(60%).

I suggest you go to the Medical Campus and speak to the pre-admissions adviser. If you haven't already done so, ask her to help you plan how you should take your pre-reqs(Pre-Req Map, so to speak). Pick up a TEAS book on amazon and start studying now. Maybe a little per semester. It has grammar, math, anatomy, chemistry, etc. A little bit of everything. Good luck! If you have any other questions, shoot me up a PM. :)

Thanks for the advice! I know there's always disinformation floating around when it comes to things like this that are so competitive, and in which people invest so much emotionally hehe.

I spoke with Dawn over at advising last year before I started my pre-reqs, and she was pretty helpful, but you're right I should go over and talk with them about getting set up for the TEAS. As far as mapping, I think I should be OK with my current schedule: I've got AnatPhys 1 and Lab under my belt, currently taking Chem and Lab, scheduled for Anat/Phys 2 and Lab and Human Growth & Dev for Fall semester, and then MicroBiology and lab next spring, and of course the application due during that semester as well.

We shall see how it goes, but thanks again for the info!
