MDC Spring 2014. Let's Do This!

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi All!

I was wondering if anyone else heard back from MDC for Spring 2014.

I just got my acceptance into the Accelerated (AO)program and I'm sooooo relieved now that the wait is finally over.

Would love to 'meet' the other fellow classmates before we embark on this crazy trip.

Also, wanted to see if the prior/current students can share any 'survival tips':

1. What is the hardest class? Is there anything you can do to prepare ahead of time?

2. Which are the 'best' Miami hospitals in your opinion? I'm from out of town

3. Class schedules?

4. Which neighborhoods are best to live in? again new to miami

Till soon!

Specializes in Peds, Med-Surg, Disaster Nsg, Parish Nsg.

Thread moved to FL Nursing forum for more response.

Hardest class is going to be your first Med Surg because you're not going to know how to answer the questions as a nurse. Once you figure out all the tricks it isn't that bad. Best hospital hands down has been Miami Childrens and UM hospital. Younger people = better attitudes which equal a better experience for you. Just my opinion of course, and I wouldn't live anywhere near Medical campus.

That's super helpful for sure!

I guess UM would be ideal since it is a teaching hospital from what i understand.

As far as locations for housing, i thought 'downtown miami' and the new neighborhoods nearby like 'design district' were good/safe now? but then again, i havent been down there at night! lol

Yea downtown miami is fine, a little pricey in my opinion. I haven't seen rent in the design district but it is getting to be a nicer area.

There is a gated community at 54th street and north miami ave I believe, you can google it, it's called designplace. They have affordably priced stuff and its decent around there and close to biscayne.

I live at 46th and nw 6th ave and it is a little rough and I wouldn't recommend for anyone to move in this vicinity, unless you are used to that kind of atmosphere.

Buena vista is totally safe but probably pricey. Not sure what the rents are like in wynwood, that's the hipster area. Anything right around med campus is def a no go (overtown) and west of 7th ave is also a nogo (liberty city). What about little Haiti?

I never thought of Little Haiti. I'll look into that for sure...its the perks of downtown w/out the pricey rents.

I know the gated community on 54th street actually, it's like this quiet oasis. I actually stayed there when i came to town to take the TEAS last month...i rented a place with Airbnb which worked out nicely.

Thanks for the tips on the hood.

They should have rent discounts for students! :)

Sorry I meant little Havana. I haven't driven around too much in little Haiti to be able to give it a proper appraisal.

Hi everybody...I also got accepted into Mdc Generic Fulltime... Im soooooo happy...the wait is finally over.
