has anyone ever attended or know someone who has attended keiser college school of nursing? Looking for information on price and quality of education?

Hello, I am also going to the nursing program at Keiser starting in Sept. I am going over there Monday to finish all of the paperwork and stuff. I was wondering, I talked to a friend of mine earlier and she said that program wasn't accredited, is that true? I didn't ask because I know the melbourne campus is so I kind of just assumed it. Let me know any info you know about the program :). Thanks!!

I belive that in order for you to accomplish your dream of becoming an RN you have to do what you have to do.

So even if it's going to Keiser- and pay $40K for an AS RN program- then so be it.

If you can't afford it- or are unqualified for loans and you have to wait 2 years in a waiting list- then wait.

If you haven't taken your pre-reqs and you have the itch to go to LPN school- then by means go for it.

Look at all your options- look at a bunch of schools even if it's a 45-60min drive- (I know! I did that) then try it.

I know it takes forever- and we all have lives besides our school- so go and follow & make your dreams happen!!!!!!!

Clinical sites can change from class to class. All of the directors for the schools get together and basically "bid" for locations for each class, each semester.

Csantos,

Is there a long wait list for Keiser in Orlando?

Thanks.

My experience with Keiser students has been pretty poor. I actually have one preceptor with me about a year ago. I was very un-impressed with her lack of education. They had done practically nothing in clinicals - I basically spent my short time with her just teaching basic nursing skills, instead of really being able to actually judge her organizational and critical thinking skills. Had another one on the floor precepting with another nurse - lets just say she was glad to see her go. With all that bad to say....I think any school can put out a great nurse - nursing comes from the heart - almost any program - if you really put your mind to it - can teach you what you need. There are some decent schools around that for a whole lot less give you a whole lot more! My advice....research....and get a job at a local hospital while in school - you learn so much more being in the midst!:heartbeat

lol I notice the same thing too when I see them at my hospital!! The LPN students do a lot better than the keiser RN program students! I thought I was the only one so did not want to mention it here!! LOL

It is EASY to find bad nurses EVERYWHERE! What school they attended, for the most, has nothing to do with it. Just because someone graduates from a nursing program and passes their boards DOES NOT make them a good nurse, or even a competent nurse for that matter. This post was started to ask questions regarding Keiser, not slam the FEW Keiser students some of you may encounter. I ASSURE the OP you will find incompetence from ALL nursing schools. Passing does not equal a good RN, ask the patients in your hospitals!

I don't think that anyone is trying to or is bashing the school or it's students. It's just personal experiences that people are sharing.

Personally, I agree that a good nurse or a bad nurse can come from any school. But from what I have seen with my own eyes are that the student's do not know basic nursing skills by the middle of the program.

And think that is not fair to the students paying 30K for an RN degree that they could get elsewhere for a lot less.

When I research schools or even places that I want to visit, I like to know what people think of it and good and bad stories towards it.

and that is what those post here help others see the good bad and ugly of things.

but in no way and means are bashing a school.

get it?

I graduated from Keiser Career College in St. Petersburg. We were a campus of Keiser College in Lakeland. I have to say, overall, I did pay a lot for the program, but I gained a lot from it.

Also, while in my LPN program, I encountered students from other schools and found them to be lacking. One, a student in the BSN program from USF, a very reputable school (I attended there for poly sci :) ) wanted to give Lidocain for pain!!! Another school, St. Petersburg College (another very reputable nursing program) had a group of students in labor and delivery during my clinicals. One of them wore headphone the entire shift while playing their ipod. (all this while talking to pts and families) And another carried a coke can into the pts room during the delivery, sipping away all the while. She had to be asked to leave. My point is that these students were not good examples for those colleges, but they are not typical. I know for a fact that USF and SPC produce good nurses because I know many of them.

I know you are most likely speaking about Keiser College, not Keiser Career College, but I feel like the money I paid was well worth it. I received my ATT and took the test the following morning because someone had cancelled and a spot came available. It was take that seat, or wait 3 more weeks. I passed on my first try. The passing rate is currently just under 100%, as they have had only one failure in 5 nursing classes at that campus.

So, dont judge the college on one or two bad eggs. :wink2:

I am going to Keiser Orlando, the Nursing directors are great, we are taking AP I now, and our Professor is awesome!

cant complain, i am the only guy in the class, so far, and I am doing pretty well, on my last test I was the only one to get A

!!!

grat school, they pay attention to you, they help you and everything else! i do not see this as waste of money... money i can make later, but the experience, and learning I need now.

so far i am very satisfied with it all!

Here here!

I had ALL my BSN pre-reqs completed with all A's and B's (3.8 GPA). I even got my AA in liberal arts in the mean time, all while waiting to get into nursing school in the Tampa area.

I went to Keiser, took a test, and was in a class in a few weeks. I graduated with lots of clinical experience to put on my resume. I passed my boards and had a job within a few weeks.

Now, I have taken 4 or my remaining tests for the ADN program with Excelsior College while working as an LPN. I should be able to apply for the CPNE and have sit for RN boards in less than one year. In the long run, it cost more, but saved me a lot of time. If I had it to do again under the same circumstances, I would pay it again.

Just my :twocents:
