IRSC ADN Applying for fall 2013

U.S.A. Florida

Hi.Anyone out there applying for fall 2013? There are changes this semester and was wondering if anyone knows what kind of score we may need on the NLN to have a chance at a spot. The application packets aren't available yet and I'm getting anxious! Anyone know when the will put them out?

Allison ... They select from the alternate pool in order of score. I watched it happen one by one when I was an alternate. Dont loose hope... a lot of us got in that were on the list. Good luck!

PDowling thank you for your help!

You are very welcome!

Maybe one of you will pass it on to the next applying class of Spring 2014 ...

Hi everyone! I just kinda stumbled upon this board by accident, and it has been a huge help. I too was selected as an alternate. I scored 135 on the NLN and have 151 total points - still taking Micro, this is my first time applying. I hate this waiting and uncertainty. @ PDowling, I know everyone is firing questions off at you, and you have been so kind in answering them all. I just was wondering how long it took for you to find out that you were accepted as an alternate? How many alternates were selected last semester and do you know how many were accepted into the program?

Congrats to everyone that was accepted, looking forward to meeting some of you on Thursday! Good luck to everyone on their finals as well!

@Dreamgirl823 I am also an alternate so I thought I would pass along some info I have picked up. U r the 4th alternate that I am aware of including Allison on this feed, myself and someone from my micro as well. I heard that the semester that started in the fall had 10 alternates and all of them were accepted. This is not fact just heresay. I also have heard (and like to think) that they do their best to get everyone in since we are doing everything req. of an accepted student. As for myself I am just thinking of it like I got in so it will keep me motivated. What I want to know is if they will be incorporating the pending micro bio grades into the alternates scores and if it will move people around on the alternate list. I did call and asked how many were on the list right after I got my letter because I found the wording on the letter to be confusing. She said they were not permitted to release that info and did not sound at all like a chatty cathy. Anyway I will keep u updated if I find out about anymore alternates but we may know all we are going to know by Thursday. Congrats and goodluck!

@LMB1979 ~ Thank you so much for the response! I spoke to a girl in my Micro class who did the LPN program last year and she said all of the alternates were accepted as well. I also spoke to another woman in my class who was applying for the second time and she has 148 total points and was not offered an alternate spot, so I am thinking there must not be that many because I read that someone on here with 149 is an alternate. Funny I called right after I got my letter for the same reason (poor wording) and asked about the alternates and how many were selected as well and got the same EXACT response. I am not really sure why everything is so top secret! I agree, I am looking at this as a good thing. This was my first time applying/testing and I was proud of my performance. I will finish the semester with A's in Micro so that will be extra points if/when they add them. Hopefully we will be given more information on Thursday, looking forward to hopefully seeing some friendly faces. When do you have Micro? I have Dr. CY on M-W 930-1045 :)

@dreamgirl823- Yeah that is me with the 149:( I guess that is reveling about where I am on the list but oh well cant do anything about it now at least I am on! I took A&P 6 years ago at another school for a different major and wasnt really stressing about getting an A so that sort of hurt my points. I am getting a B lecutre A lab in micro I have Willoughby mon @ 5:30. Oh I also heard that around 400 people applied this time so I was very proud of my alternate letter once I got over the shock and had my cry. Especially with no micro points included. I will be there on Thursday with bells on and I will be counting heads!!!!:D

It doesn't seem like that many alternates were chosen given the points spread. Because I think from reading the lowest scored that I have seen that has been accepted (correct me if I am wrong) is a 156. That isn't very many points in between accepted, alternates, and not accepted. I am staying positive, that's all we can do at this point. Wow, 400...that is insane! We should be very proud of ourselves. Quite honestly, without the points for Micro, I was expecting a big fat no, so I was pleasantly surprised. I was lucky and only had my humanities and psychology 15 or so years ago (now I am showing my age haha). The woman that's in my Micro that didn't get accepted was in the same position took her A&P 20 years ago and didn't do that well and was told she couldn't retake it. That kind of stinks if you are trying to continue your education to be turned down because of something you took so long ago. Anyway, Willoughby, I feel for you!! I took her online last summer for Gen. Bio. and squeaked by with a B, my only B ever...she is a tough one! I am taking A&P 2 this semester as well, I have Bowen and she is tough as well but at least she curves her grades and gives a take home exam to help out your grade. Anyway, back to studying for me. It's great that we have a place to come and ask questions and get some more info. Good luck on your finals and I will see you on Thursday :)

i went to the info session on the 18th (even though i got my acceptance letter on the 14th, they still insisted that i show up to the info sesh -__-') and they said that they don't count micro bio. i think this cycle was the only time/last time they counted it, but from the way that they made it seem, it wasn't even required unless 2 students had the same cum score/gpa, then microbio would be used as a tiebreaker, and if there was still a tie, then they would look at if you were in another program (medic/rrt/lpn)

Also i heard the range of applicants was closer to 280-range from the woman giving the presentation. And if they only accept 10 alternates out of 70 to get in AND the 300 that apply, i would imagine that the cut off would be merely no more than a few points.

I received the SAP notification from financial aid meaning im going to need to find another way to pay for nursing school since irsc won't help out, so who knows, one of you alts may be taking MY place if i cant figure it out :/ heh.

Keep your head up guys, see ya thursday!

@dreamgirl823 ... I found out 2 weeks before class started. They never would tell us how many alternates there were ... and I know 5 others in my class that were alternates ... but I dont talk to everyone so I'm not really sure how many got in. Wish I could be of more help. Keep hopeful! There will always be people who miss a mandatory meeting, fail a drug test, a background check, or just have changes in their personal or financial life that changes their mind after being accepted.

Anyone that went to the pre orientation tn, did anyone else think that was a overdose of crap ? Lol all I heard over an over was "or else youll be out of the program"

Sigh I hope we dont have to deal with a bunch of crabs once we start. There was a load of people there today, I guess this semester they decided

To widen the applicant pool, easily 100 people there. Thats good news for you alts !

I counted 102 names called and 6 people werent there to get their packet which leaves 96 people. If they only accept 70 then that still leaves 26 alternates. I dont know how thats good unless they accepted more than they said they were going to. I guess there is no real way to know which is the way they want it. Oh well guess I will get to jumping 'cause there are still alot of hoops to go yet!
