how do I find out about getting license from florida if in school in another state??

U.S.A. Florida

I'm in school in Mississippi and graduate from LPN in July 2009. I was planning on working here for about 6 months, then moving with my fiancee and his job to pensacola. I know Florida does not participate in the reciprocity that Mississippi participates in with 20 other states. However, I can't find anywhere if I'll have to retake the NClex or if I just have to pay for a new license and can use my MS NCLEX!! Please help!! Thanks!!

I know for a fact that you will not have to take the NCLEX again.

thanks! i thought the only state you have to retake it is california if i remember correctly but i just need to be sure before moving and all!! the fla state board nursing web site wasn't too clear from what i found.

you don't have to take your NCLEX again :)

FL requires a few things. for one, a bunch of CE credits. you are required to complete CE's on HIV/AIDS, domestic violence and medication error prior to intial licensure. you also need to send in 2 sets of finger prints for background checks. then, pay a fee and apply for endorsement of your mississippi license.

this should help: http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/nursing/nur_lic_reqEnd.html

good luck! :)

Hi! Thanks for the info. I found that link earlier but it just confused me. So, you're an LPN? I will be in July. School has been more difficult than i thought it would be.. i definitely underestimated the program..lol. How long are these CE classes? I have to have them before I begin working in FL? Thanks again!!

yes, i am a LPN :)

they aren't too bad, i did mine online on www.excellenceinlearning.net.... i forget how much they cost but they were reasonable, and the tests were very straightforward. you have to have them before you can even submit your application for licensure in florida.

congrats on being in nursing school and good luck with your future!
