Hello all,

I thought I would start a thread for those of us applying to HCC's Spring 2013 nursing program. I am a Veterinary Technician/stay at home mom. I'm gathering everything for my application and hoping to drop it off at HCC soon. The deadline isn't until 6/1 but they recommend turning it in at least 30 days in advance. I'm a current HCC student. I was planning on applying for Fall this year, but am now expecting a little girl to arrive in July so spring it is! My pre-req GPA is 3.86 (all A's and 1 B), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program for DM evening classes. Good luck to all!

Super nervous!

yes, everytime I think about it....my heart pounds!

Extremely nervous!

does anyone know if for DM afternoons we have to meet at 6:30 or 7:30 am on Wednesday? because on her first email she sent out on hawkmail she mentioned 6:30am and on the one she sent out on blackboard last week she said 7:30am.

Hey mramirez0213, I realized that she posted two different times, but I plan to be there for 6:30 just to be on the safe side.

Yeah, I'm pretty anxious about the whole thing. Not sleeping much. I'm starting to really regretting signing up for this thing, contemplating withdrawing before the tuition payment becomes final. I don't think I'm gonna have the time to devote to this.... I'll ask the teacher the first day and get her input about what I should do. But this kinda feels wrong now..

I am starting to get soooo nervous. I guess now that it's officially January and our start date is right around the corner I'm super nervous about it! Anyone else feeling super overwhelmed??[/quote']

I'm not too overwhelmed yet. I'll feel better when things are finally up and running so to speak. I am however having major mommy guilt. I've been a stay at home mom for quite a while now and hate the thought of being away from my little ones. Especially with my youngest only being 5 months old.

Well the good thing is that we will be in class at night, and Saturdays will fly by. So you'll still be able to be at home with them for a while. Then, when we graduate, you'll have a lot of flexibility in your schedule, so it won't be like working an 8-5 type job. But I hear you. I couldn't imagine having the responsibility of young children, having the comfort of being home with them all the time, and being in nursing school. But you'll figure it out!

I'm so excited, this is the first real step towards the next chapter in my life and I couldn't be happier about it. I can't wait to get into the lab and start clinicals! I've been doing all the reading recommended to help ease anxiety and make sure I feel prepared on that first day. It's been kind of fun so far putting together all the knowledge we built doing pre-requisites and applying it practically, I like the text so far. You'll all be great, don't spend your energies on worrying and nerves, and apply them to your studies- you'll be fine!

Does anyone know which books we have to bring on the first day of class? Is it all of them?

Our first class day is today... or tonight. But I am bringing my iPad with my eBooks. That way, I don't have to lug heavy books around. Not sure if you have a tablet or laptop that you can access eBooks on. Might make it easier. When you add your pageburst code from the Elsevier box, it automatically gives you access to all of your textbooks. It's pretty cool!

KCrooks13, I tried to get my ebooks, but when I enter my access code it only pulls up pageburst for the clinical calculations. We are supposed to get all the books in the electronic version correct or do I have to pay for the e book? Please help cuz I just lugged all my books to the car this morning. I could not figure out how to download the e-books and tech support was close. I appreciate all you help!
