HCC - Need to vent...

Ok, I'm working on my pre-reqs so that I can hopefully start HCC's nursing program next spring. I already have a BS in Biology. The problem is that the first college I went to gave me CLEP credit for English Comp I based on my ACT scores. I never actually took the CLEP test. HCC is telling me that even though I already have a BS, that they won't give me credit for Comp I because I can't produce the CLEP scores. UGH!

Soooo, I went and took the CLEP test...and didn't get a high enough score. :o It's my own fault for not studying.

It means that I won't have all of my pre-reqs done in time for the application deadline and now I'm stuck waiting until next year because their night program only accepts new students in the spring. Grrrrrr.... :angryfire

I'm thinking about going to the ombudsman (sp?) to see if I can get that credit. I'm ****** because I failed that ******* test and because since I already have a degree, I don't think that I should have to re-take any of the gen. ed. requirements. I had to fulfill them in order to graduate the first time around.

So what do you guys think? Do I have a valid point or am I just overacting over nothing?

Update: I e-mailed the Dean of Student Services and explained my situation. He meant to forward my e-mail to someone else, but mistakenly replied back to me. *hee hee* Anyhoo, he asked if my other colleges accepted the credit, then why wouldn't they regardless of how it was awarded? Soooo, I'm trying to be hopeful and assume that his response means that I will get credit after all! :yeah:

Is there anyway that you can apply but have a "pending" status on the ENC1101. When I was doing micro pre reqs there were a few girls that had already applied and would be accepted into the program formally when they passed micro. The only thing you would have to take ENC1101 during the summer but you could do it online. Baldwin has online classes every semester I believe.

HCC said that all pre-reqs must be completed prior to applying to their program because they are getting so many applications.

I wonder when they started that. They usually average about 450 applications a year. Well I hope they accept it since other's have and you already have a degree. Did you see if you could audit the class and retest out?

You do have a valid point and it certainly won't hurt to ask.

But the fact you didn't score high enough to CLEP out doesn't look good.

Yeah, I should have e-mailed the dean prior to taking the test however I "conveniently" neglected to mention that score in my e-mail to him.
