FSCJ Summer 2013 Nursing Students

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi everyone, well I'm starting this convo so we all can get an idea of who, what, when, and where with FSCJ. Good topics would include testing materials, the average ranking of points for the upcoming term, and any other useful ideas that will help us all get into to this crazy hard nursing program! :) So, lets see if we can help each other out....and it's kinda fun to talk about nursing as well :)

Aghh! I wish I would have asked that as well. I received a B in ENC1101 but an A in ENC 1102 and I had the same thing for humanities. I used my B's=( That would have put me at 211. Oh well, I think my points are still decent enough to get in. If not I sure hope fall will not be a problem.

I applied for days for the Summer 2013 start. However, if I do not get accepted this term, do you know if in Fall if I apply for nights and weekends and do not get selected for NW's but my points are strong enough for days will they automatically put me in days or just automatically cut me out because my points were not strong enough for N/Ws?

I feel like my application has been in for so long. I keep looking at the date and it seems like time is creeping by. Does anyone have the new app for fall term? I am going to apply just in case but I am really really hoping summer works out!

I think as long as those grades are on the transcript you turned in they will automatically take the higher ones (assuming they are from classes that they deem as meeting the application criteria). I just highlighted the ones I wanted them to use so they wouldn't overlook it (I was a little OCD when it came to my application).

As for the N/W vs days thing...you have to indicate on your application if you are interested in both programs or just one. If you are interested in both, you have to rank the order of preference. So, if you applied for only N/W they will not consider you for days automatically. You would, therefore, need to mark that you are applying for BOTH N/W and days and that N/W would be your first choice. If for some weird reason your score wasn't high enough for nights they wouldn't disqualify you for days unless your score wasn't high enough for days either (99.99999% sure this won't be the case for you).

I think this will all end up being a moot point for you anyway since your score is so high and you'll be sure to get into Summer ;) Best of luck! Let the waiting continue....

Hello everybody,

I have a question concerning the application..

On the application, they're asking if we prefer the daytime or evening classes, I think I checked both because it doesn't matter to me, I just wanna get in, but I did not indicate my first and second choice. Do you think they will reject my application, thank you alot.

Ohh one more thing, do you know the cut off?

Hi there, they won't reject your app for that. It asks which do you prefer. On mine, I put a number 1 & 2. :) And we won't know the cutoff till after March 1st......at least. I'm guessing more in the middle or late March.

Thank you for your reply

Your welcome and good luck! :)

174.96 points here. I finally added mine up. Lol. I hope it is enough to get in! Fingers crossed.

Are people remembering to multiply their NAT raw scores by .64? Cause the scores people say they have on this thread seem crazy high! Unless everyone is getting straight A's and nearly perfect scores on their NAT? Idk. Maybe I'm just a little bitter that I didn't take my prereqs at a community college. I took them at a university bc I already have a BSH and an MPH and I think they are way harder at a university than a community college. I guess previous degrees don't count for anything when applying to this program. :(

you are probably right that a lot of people did their pre-reqs at a community college and that a lot of people have all A's or nearly all A's. I agree that classes are harder at universities than at community colleges. You might want to consider retaking some of your classes at a community college to get your points up. Or maybe retake the NAT - idk which would be better for you.

For me, I took psychology and college algebra 20+ years ago, back when I wasn't taking school as seriously as I should've. I have a C for both of those classes. I couldn't retake psychology at FSCJ, but I bumped out my college algebra with an A in statistics [a higher math]. The C will count for me at FSCJ, but at UNF I bumped that grade out with an A in another social science class [i think it was intro to sociology or something like that]. So sometimes you can take a different class, make your A and it will cancel out the pre-req you don't want considered.

I have talked to other people as well who retook classes that they didn't take seriously at the time. Those same folks are having better luck getting into the program they want after retaking those classes. It is def harder coming into the application process with pre-reqs that aren't nearly all A's because it weighs so heavily in the competitive process.

What is a BSH and MSH? [i'm guessing bachelors/masters science health?]

I think I saw on another blog string that you have a really nice score on the TEAS V? Just goes to show you've got what it takes. If you really want to do nursing consider bumping up those classes that are dragging you down. I think that St. John's will allow you to retake. FSCJ only allows retakes for certain classes.

Anyway - def worth checking into. I hope you get what you want -

Hey Lucy how's Micro going? :)

Yes I have a bachelors of science in health and a masters of health. They focus on health education and research. I've had the hardest time finding a job with those degrees. And the one I did have was as an online health educator for an online based wellness program. So I say at a computer in a cubicle all day. I hated that so I quit and went back to serving. Most "health educator" jobs I find require you to be a nurse which really irks me because I have two degrees specifically devoted to health education. It's a shame they require health educators to be nurses when I'm pretty sure I could do the job just as good or even better. So that's one reason why I want to be a nurse...maybe I will make more with those health education degrees. I would be an asset to anywhere I work. Plus I like hands on and working with people. Computer jobs bore me. I like being active. I might retake some classes. Idk. I feel like at this point in my life I should be able to at least get a minimum wage job. I can even get that because I am too overqualified. :(

kristinhope - Well you look pretty young in your photo so don't throw in the towel yet. I would feel aggravation in your situation too. But just plug along and do what you need to to get where you want to be. Maybe you need to take a cubical job long enough to get through with school...

You can do it. I like to say I can do anything for a short while. So maybe you take a job you don't like in the interim - it won't be the end of the world. Try UPS - they hire PT Supvs and have tuition reimbursement.... would allow you to go to school and you would be active.

Hello Kristinhope,

I am applying for the summer nursing program too. I have good grades, all A's for the prerequisites. However, the NAT test put me down. I got 76.16. So my total score is 196.16. I know this score is not enough comparing with other people's scores.

I recommend if you try to retake those classes, and hopefully, you will have a better chance to be accepted.

Now, I am studying the Teas book, hopefully, I'll do better this time on the NAt, but I really hope to start the program in the summer.
