Anyone attended FIU for the online RN-BSN program.

I know they do not have the classroom program anymore. and now everything is online.

I am a classroom type of person, but I think that going to BARRY and UM would be too expensive.

I just want to know if you've been to FIU RN-BSN program, if you liked it, how are the classes (diff. or easy), is it expensive with all those fees?

would you recommend going there?

anyways, I started the program at FIU last year, only part time. I decided to take the summer and fall this year off, and to focus on the EC exams x3.

School is well so far, organization to any online program is the key to avoid missing deadlines, and completing all the homework.

I would recommend this school.

It's definitely priced right above any other private university.

I haven't gotten to that portion of my program yet, but i will have a community nursing clinical, and a practicum. from what the advisor told me, she said that my hours are not as strict as the generic students, and that i will have a sheet that a preceptor will have to sign.

*sigh* i can't wait to get to that portion and just be done with this bsn

not in clinicals yet, but one step closer to them!

I have been dreading the exams to take.... but yesterday I took my first one, and let me tell you it was not that bad at all.

the ONLY thing I studied was the questions on the CD on the saunder's comprehensive review book!!

I am such a procrastinator, so I only studied sunday and monday the questions, while drinking wine coolers (I love those)..... and I was nervous, and in my mind I was going to fail.

The questions are specific based of simple nursing skills/info.

I wish I would of known that, and not had been scared of taking these exams, that's why I kept putting it off. but I will take the next 2 exams, and God willing I will be in clinicals next term. :)

wow, this is the route im planning on going with when i get my RN. what are the requirements? where did you go and get your RN? and is it also competitive as getting into the basic bsn program? it seems that everywhere you go is competitive :x. thnks!

I went to broward community college, in pembroke pines, FL ; back in the day 2003 there was a waiting list, and in december of that year I applied to the program, and did not start BCC 'till 2005. Now luckily for everyone there are no waiting lists and you get in based on points and an entrance test. )BCC is now broward college. Not sure how competitive the RN program at BC is now in 2010

For the RN-BSN program, I do not think it is competitive, since there are many RN's and many schools that offer the RN-BSN program. As long as you meet the minimum requirements, you should get in (I did! I had already finished my AA in pre-nursing based on the FIU curriculum, so I did not have to take any more classes ;) )

The RN programs are competitive programs because schools are looking for people who have the highest chance of passing the nclex-RN exam and lack of nursing instructors could also be the cause (but please do not quote me on that).

The best thing to do if you want to become an RN at any school, is to get good grades in school, so you apply with a strong GPA (above a 3.5), that way you can enter nursing school & even get scholarships (scholarships will get you a guaranteed job at a hospital with a contract).

wow thank you so much for the info. really helped me alot and made me less stressed about everything :D I will apply to FIU BSN prgrams. i read in previous posts that is only online classes. how long is the program and do they require more from you thenin the classroom?

Based on my experience, it is the same as the classroom. But to me it is better because you don't have to drive to campus everyday. and when you have scheduled test, they give you ALL day to do them or sometimes a couple of days.

This past semester my research teacher opened up the tests on wed. afternoon and closed them on friday noon. My statistics teacher gave 24hrs from friday noon to saturday noon.

The program is as long as you want it to be ;) I am taking my sweet time because I am not sure yet if I want to pursue a master's degree, plus I have a toddler & working nights... so it is not a priority. I did 2 classes per semester with 2 semesters off. so now I am one class one lab this summer, and one practicum in the fall.

Based on all the credits, you can finish the program in a year if you want to. or you can do it in 2 years.

It is not a strict program at all, they give you the list of classes that you need in the beginning, and you go down the list in order ti'll you are done :)

the FIU generic program is not online only the RN-BSN program (and apparently they have an RN-MSN option... but I do not see that anywhere on the FIU website, but some of my classmates put in their beginning semester bio that that is the program that they were in)
