FL Hospital vs Local StaRN

Hey guys so what would you do?

Fl Hospital Critical care position - moving away from parents & having to pay rent. ASN rate from beginning of training (~23 or so). 2 year contract.

Vs

Local StaRN program. $15 hourly during training (13-14 weeks) $24 hourly after - 2 year contract. Step down position. Able to live at Parents place so no rent but will contribute total of ~$500 or so.

All of this doesn't include my personal bills, etc.

What say you allnursies ������

I would never accept $15 an hour as a RN. Even just during orientation. You're taking on all of the risks associated with being a RN and you should be compensated appropriately for that.

Thank you. I totally agree with that but...it's what I've been offered (my only offer) in Miami. All Miami StaRN programs are offering that during their 14 week training (7 didactic 7 preceptorship).

Does it not make a difference to you even if the $24 offer follows the training?

What do you think? I really appreciate your input.

I definitely don't recommend FL Hospital, if you have the offer with the StaRN program I personally think you should take that one; no need to pay rent and you'll be living with parents which is a better opportunity to save. Yes the pay may be low for the first few weeks, but once your regular pay rate sets in it will be ok. It seems like a good opportunity!

I actually applied and got an offer for critical care, but I didn't take it because of the $13,500 contract they require for 2 years and they don't have techs or any support for night shift :nailbiting: It definitely seemed fishy so that's why I say I don't recommend it.

It really depends on what you want to do stepdown or ICU. The second offer sounds like a HCA hospital? If so do your research on that hospital and unit before you sign. Most don't come after you for money if you break the contract at like 9-13 months. Florida hospital however they would most likely ask you for the balance due depending on the time left on your two year contract. If I wanted to save money and had plans of grad school I would just do the one closest to home to save up and get experience. You can always ask to transfer later. But if it's HCA just know they are rough hospitals to work at most of the times.
