HI, I am currently enrolled at this school and I am taking my pre and coreq's. I am applying in September, does anyone have any advice for me? And by any, I mean any? THanks

My advice is dont listen to anything other students say about getting in the program...take it with a grain of salt. Try to get your information from the horses mouth (aka nursing dept). I went to DBCC for a while and I missed the application period bc I thought I had to wait until I finished my pre reqs to apply.

Also, dont be discouraged by the wait list....if it seems too long for you, consider taking the LPN program and then taking the RN bridge program after that. You can be making a decent living as an LPN while u would still be waiting to even start the generic RN program....and then u only have one year to complete the bridge. DBCC has one, and so does Orlando Tech and SCC. This is what I did and it was a great decision...I needed to be able to get into the workforce ASAP so I didnt have the time or patience to wait a couple of years to start the RN program. Now Im in the online LPN to RN bridge at Valencia in Orlando and finish in december. I work in peds home health with a pretty good salary and it works well around school. When u apply to the bridge programs there isnt a waiting list because there is a smaller applicant pool (Just LPNs, and RTs/Paramedics) and u have to have all the pre reqs done. I applied to DBCC and VCC's bridge programs and was accepted to both (applied in fall to start in January). I chose VCC bc it was closer and it was online.

Good luck!

I went to DBCC and like the previous nurse stated get your information directly from the nursing department. I have had my CNA 11 yrs now and Iam thinking of going back for LPN or Health care management.;)

I graduated from DBCC's nursing program in 2004. Get good grades in your prerequisites & keep up to date with the nursing department requires when it comes to applying. It's a great program. Good luck!

I graduated from DBCC last year. Great program, definitely gave me a good foundation for nursing practice. When I applied, I was accepted, but for the class that started 3 semesters later. I actually got called up to start early though. Don't be discouraged. If you have any specific questions, feel free to send me a message. Good luck to you!

does anyone know what lpns make starting out in daytona beach i am also at dbcc...now daytona state for lpn.. my current job i make 16 an hour but i hate what I do and would love to be a nurse i want to go to the the rn program right after. I just need to get out of my career. I heard that halifax pays horrible but im not sure.. do you think i have any hope of getting a comparable salary to what i make now as an lpn?

I am having a difficult time getting into LPN program at Daytona State. I have applied twice with 3.2 GPA, good NET score and all pre and co-requisite courses complete. I'm starting to get a little discouraged. Should I even bother applying for the RN program now or is it just as competetive? Anyone else having this problem? Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Good luck with that. I have to go for the night time course and I applied last YEAR and didnt get in with an 82% net test and a 3.3 gpa I was in my prereqs at the moment tho. If I dont get in this year after waiting soooo long and having my prereqs done I can say I will be inthat office raising cain. They only take like 30 students a semester but the lady told me the LPN is alot less competitive than the RN and Id love to finish faster. But only time can tell. I will be turning my application in septemeber when the application process starts for the January semester. Hopefully we will both get in :D

Thanks for the reply. My NET was 72% and all pre-reqs done. I too am going to apply again in Sept. and if I am rejected, I guess I'll work on the RN. I don't know what else to do. I really don't want to work as a CNA forever. Good Luck to you too.

Fingers Crossed!

Where do you work as a CNA? I just got a job as a new cna at coquina center in ormond. Its not bad so far. But I feel you... I dont want to do this forever.

sorry I took so long to reply. I work at Avante in ormond and I really like most of my coworkers. We work as a team, thankfully. Thanks for the reply.
