Broward College hopeful for May 2013 Nursing Program

U.S.A. Florida

I know there is a lot of confusion going around with the new requirements for the BC nursing program so I wanted to start a thread for those of us finishing prerequisites and applying in January. I'm in the Core class now, but other than that I'm finished with everything else and getting very excited to start next year!

I want to be a NP, so I've looked into some RN-MSN bridge programs as well, especially FAU's dual BS-MS bridge program. The only thing that makes me nervous about my qualifications into these types of programs is that I took Intro to Psych 9 years ago and got a C in it, and now I'm kicking myself since it's considered a prereq for most BSN programs or higher! Lol.

While I am certain they take our grades from long ago into consideration (I partied my way through college the first time 12 years ago so I feel your pain!) I am sure they also look at the time and your most recent achievements.

If we knock the ADN program at BC out of the park and get some great recommendations then I am sure we will find a program somewhere that will take us. The most important thing right now is to just absolutely slay RN school at BC so there is no doubt what calibre of student we are.

Probably oncology. As soon as I graduate I'd like to get right back into the classroom and work on a higher degree while working at the same time. I'm in no rush to get a MSN, that'll hopefully come in time, though I would like to see how the business/management side of nursing is.

Of course getting into the program is first and foremost. lol

Amen Prince. I am definitely going to try to get work in whichever field I decide to pursue while I am in NP school. Of course I have no idea about anything at this point, but lately I have been leaning towards either Acute Care NP and Family/Cardio NP. Ask me again tomorrow though and you will get a different answer. ha

So Christopher you are a college returne to?

Sure am! 32 years old myself, but when I am looking around at most of my classmates I feel 100. lol

Wow! Nice to know I'm not the only one! Although I'm a few years younger (27) I know what you mean when you say you feel 100.

I hear ya. lol

I don't really know that much about all of the other fields besides an RN, so what is the difference between RN and NP? More pay, prestige, schooling?

Note to self: stop reading other threads !!

Thank you for letting me rant.

You're right, christophernftl, the most recent stuff looks better than what we did in college a decade ago. That makes me feel much better. :) Thanks!

I just want to hear if we got into BC or not already, the suspense is killing me!!!

Great, thanks Christopher!!! You just made me 1000 !!!

My son just started his classes at BC. (No, I'm not gonna tell you how MUCH older I am).

I'm a returning grad myself! 29 yrs young. Lol Christopher, I'm looking to knock out my masters ASAP as well. How long do they take and do they have online options?

Still nothing. Grr.

I know. In time we'll find out. Just breathe and try to keep busy.
