The Department of Education has approved Broward College's request to offer BSN degrees. There are more steps involved in order to get the program going, but the first hurdle is over.

Check out the Sun-Sentinel article:

this is awesome news!!! im wondering if its going to be a RN-BSN or a straight BSN degree? do you know

I don't know for certain, but when I went to the nursing info session at North campus back in November, they said they were hoping to offer the RN-BSN degree in the near future.

Also the article said this: "In order to be accepted in the new advanced degree programs, the students have to already hold the appropriate basic degrees in their fields...."

My guess is that means you would have to be an RN first in order to be accepted into the program. But at any rate, this is exciting news.

I'd rather go to a "university"

I graduated from BCC and I never want to set foot in that school again! not even to visit!

WOW ! I just started there and I feel like that every day.

You deserve a BIG CONGRATS!

Any suggestions on how to survive there ?

LOL.

tips on surviving BC:

Always follow the instructions that the teacher asks for

Read EVERYTHING in the chapter topics for each test (if needed, use supplementary reading, I used the reviews and rationale series for medsurg, OB, & peds)

Practice the math at week before taking the math tests in the beginning of the semester

get to class & clinicals on time

do your own notes, & never read someone elses notes no matter how "good" people say they are

study on your own before you do study groups

* that's it!!!

I'm happy at FIU, I'm glad I am going there for my BSN, wouldn't step foot in a miami dade college campus or a bc campus ever again in my life--- got both of my diplomas from there, *& transcripts can now be requested over the school websites now.

*and there wasn't any teacher who "made a difference" in my life at either schools so I don't feel like I have to visit anybody.

Oh wow... I'm having second thoughts about BC.... I'm down to 4 classes b4 i can sign up for the program.

Wow, so you people didn't have a good time at broward college then?

Maybe I shouldnt go then if it's that bad.

Oh wait a second, I want to escape living in poverty, nevermind. Hopefully an ASN and or eventually a BSN will provide me with more than a paycheck that get's me $2k a month.

Sorry to raise a dead thread. But has anyone heard any update on this?

I actually found this one through a google search looking for it, and the link isn't active anymore. Any rumors about when this will be going down?

don't worry!!!!!!!

Its a tough program-- but with dedication and hard work anyone can pass the nursing classes, and pass the nclex-rn

best of luck!

not at all, but it takes a couple of years for things to start going.

MDC was the same exact way-- first they started with the education bachelor's, and now slowly it will progress to the BSN.

I suggest everyone just worry about getting that ASN, and passing that NCLEX first, then once youre ready go to the RN-BSN

I took a year off after my ASN, and I am so happy I did-- now I am taking my sweet time finishing up the RN-BSN portion of my educational career. :smokin:
