Hey to all,

What would be a good gpa for the nursing program at BC? Has anyone applied to their May 2009 program for the summer? If so, can you please share what your program gpa is? I was reading the website and I was thinking about applying. I initially was going to take a class at BC that I needed at another institution and so I have been accepted to the school and all of that is taken care of. Their deadline is Thursday and I would like to know more before I apply. Thanks to all and have a good one.

I've seen it posted around the board that the cutoff into the Jan '09 program was 3.4 and 3.3 for the alternates. This is based on your GPA for pre-reqs only, not cum gpa. Good luck. I'm applying for August '09, more than likely, otherwise Jan '10

i applied to the may program and my program gpa is 3.0. i took hosa when i was in high school but i graduated in 2000. so im not sure if theyre going to give me the points or not.. i hope they do!! on top of that i did take the hcp class. i hope i get in.

My sister is in the Jan 09 class. Sunnyraygurl is right. 3.4 is the base gpa with alternates coming in around 3.3. Hosa students get an extra 5 pts but I'm not sure how far back that goes. Good luck. I would definitely apply to other places just to not have all your eggs in one basket. I would think that 3.4 would be good but who knows how many will apply for the May program

I know that they accept fewer students than for the Jan/Fall program. This semester, 700 folks applied for around 200+seats so it is a popular, competitive program.

Good luck

Which campus is your sister attending? How is it going for her so far? Is it just insane? LOL. I'm so nervous about starting in August.

She is at South (Hollywood) campus. Just about every other day I get an update from her. She says that it is very intense and that you have to be highly organized to succeed. the first two days were hell and it seemed as if the teacher was deliberately trying to be Super *****.

There is lots of work to do and lots of chapters to cover in a very short time. They were working on skills last week, proper hand washing techniques, history of nursing, the 7 rights of giving medicine etc. i would strongly advide to read up on proper hand washing, reviewing anatomy and fining blood pressure. She says if you choose to sell your books back, do so but keep anatomy. She says that some have a problem finding body areas etc the intercoastal rip, poppiteal etc

They started math and pharmocology last week. My sister passed the PCAT for Pharmacy school, has done pre calc, calc, organic chemistry, chemistry etcc and is very much math inclined. She says that several are stressing over math. The have an exam in two weeks and they have to get 90% ie. 9 out of 10 right or they fail.

In the time that you are waiting you may want to brush up on conversions etc. She had a 3.57 avg and got in. Which campus will you be attending? and good luck.

I'll be attending North, unless for some strange reason I decide to take the online courses and then I will have to go to Central. I am pretty positive I will NOT be going that route, but I have a good friend that will be and I was really looking forward to going through nursing school with her. But I not one who learns best just by reading, I learn better by hearing and doing, so I really need the face to face interaction. While I'm waiting for August (or January, which was the semester I originally planned to start in) to get here, I am planning on reading ahead in some of the books, working on my math, and working on my time management skills.

Thanks for the good luck wishes. I know you're in FL, too somewhere.....you're waiting to get in a program, too, right? I can't remember. Maybe you're in a program already......

:wink2: I wish you all the best of luck at Broward College,

I know it's a tough road, but you all can do it!! hang in there, study with a positive attitude!

I applied for the may semester at bcc north with a 3.57.. Im not too sure ill be getting in with that considering there only accepting 100 kids. They already are reviewing the applications.

Sassygirl2020, I believe that you have an excellent chance of getting in. Have you taken Microbiology yet?

Im taking that now along with 6 other classes! Are you already in the program or are you doing your prereqs

Sassygirl-

What campus are you attending? That GPA sounds like a very good one. I don't know much about the application process, but I've heard that last semester was THE MOST competitive to get in, and 3.57 was good enough for that semester!

Also, I know we can't name names on here, but I was wondering how you are liking your professor for micro? Maybe you can PM me the name. If you put initials on here, I could probably figure that out, but I don't know if initials are ok or not. I was planning on taking someone at Central (I usually attend North campus), but at the last minute this semester, he dropped all of his classes (someone said he got a promotion or something) and I don't know if he is going to teach next semester. Now I am looking for some recommendations, lol.

Good luck with that and all your other classes this semester. When do you think you'll be hearing back about getting in to the May program?
