Do you have any tips for us??? Especially surviving the first semester?

Oh god I have loads. But don't let me scare you! Cause while it's stressful you meet some of your life long friends! You guys will experience so much together!

1. Find your group and stick with it. Find what works for you as far as studying and keep up with it.

2. You are ALL in this together. It's not a solo thing. Lean on each other cause if you segregate and become hostile (like the class prior to me) it will make your life hell. My class is so close which is probably why we've only had like 4 people drop out.

3. The program is not fair. End of story get over it now.

4. ATI, ATI, ATI. Those books will become your best friend. Especially if you have to cram last second for a test. And don't blow them off. It's predictive of what you'll get on your comprehensive (which is this big test you take at the end of the program and you have to get a 90% on it or you repeat the semester)

5. Kiss you're straight As and perfect GPAs good bye. I had a 3.8 coming in and I have a 3.3 now and I'm totally cool with it. C's absolutely get degrees (but Bs are preferred). Just focus on the finish line.

6. Clinicals are a place to learn so much. A time to soak in stuff, don't sit on you butts talking- answer call lights (even if they aren't yours), ask CNAs what you can do for them (yes this means you'll have to deal with poop. You'll live I promise), go into rooms and ask if they need anything, or just straight up follow your nurse the whole day.

7. If you haven't looking at the SoN grading policy do that now so you aren't surprised...

8. Professors are from all parts of the spectrum. From caring and sweet to psycho to lazy. But they all care about your success or they wouldn't be doing what they're doing cause trust me the pay isn't awesome.

9. You will not read everything in the textbook. This one was hard for me personally. I like to read and learn but there just isn't enough time. Haha

10. Do NOT listen to the lie they tell you "your fist semester is the hardest" they are lying. I thought that and was so relieved to get through it then got to all the next semesters and was pretty upset that... Yet again I was dying.

11. Your first semester is the hardest. Yeah I know I just said it wasn't.... It's just because you'll be taking 5 classes, building your foundations to nursing, and doing something that is totally different then you've ever done before. It's a different kind of hard, now go read 10 again.

12. You are going to not like people in your class. It just happens. But don't be a jerk to them. I assure you at some point you WILL need them. Those who are friends with everyone have a nice ride lol.

13. If you need help- ask. Before its too late.

14. KEEP ALL YOUR BOOKS. You'll want a professional reference for all your papers when you get further.

15. You'll finish. It'll happen. Focus keep your nose to the pavement and keep chugging along. You got this. You all were selected from about 400-500 applicants to be here. Obviously they know you can do it, cause you can!

Good luck guys! If you need anything throughout the semester you can contact me (if you don't see me in Marieb). More than happy to help!

Amazing advice!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!

Def. Thanks thats a ton of great bits of info. :D

To add:

16. Pay attention to co-requs. You have a lot in the first semester. EX if you drop patho bc you're failing you have to drop Health Assessment... I had a classmate learn this one the hard way.

17. Start studying for Patho and Pharm like as soon as you get the books. Crack that bad boy up to chapter one and just chug along.

18. Pharm professor (Healy) is amazing for tests use her ppts

19. Health Assessment is Wolf I believe she gives "content notes" out. I paired those with the book and wkbk and wrote notes on them and it worked fantastically for me!

20. Patho, uh good luck my friends.

21. Foundations, I don't know who is teaching it. I had Harner and I just read the book and it worked really well for me. The book is a good read anyway... For a nursing textbook at least.

22. Intro... Ah intro. It's like a study hall. Enjoy the last "free" class you'll ever see haha.

23. If you can, take colloquium over the summer if you haven't already. I'm glad I did it before I got into the program. If not don't worry they'll schedule it in there somewhere.

24. They have these "paths" for fall classes. I'm a spring class admit so idk how they work but they split you all in to two classes. Enjoy your class of ~60 while it lasts :) (this would be a good example of the "stay friends with everyone" thing cause they'll be taking classes before you and you all will be able to trade notes and advice and what not!)

25. My class has a tradition of taking a picture at the end of every semester when we take our last final. Start a tradition with your class and keep it. Our pictures are awesome and will look fantastic at the pinning ceremony :)

26. If you are looking for scrubs and stuff cheap the Nursing page on Facebook all the graduates are selling theirs! (I would personally recommend three pairs but I know many get by with 2)

Ok I think I'm done? Told you I had a lot! I'll keep up if I get more! :)

Again, thank you!!! i have my Patho and Pharm book and want to read over the summer so i wont feel as if I am lost completely when we start. I'm open to anything else you feel we may need to know! :-)

Thank you sooooo much for the advice! You are awesome!

Oh and what is the facebook nursing page?

Hey guys, I was reading this thread because I'm considering applying for the BSN at FGCU. All along I thought I was going to stick with FSW's LPN-RN "Transitions" ASN program (formerly Edison State) but on another thread I was reading a post made by *amber1014* -and she had said she was accepted into the BSN program at FGCU....so, since all of you are applying, have applied, or are currently in the FGCU BSN program I have a few questions for you guys:::: what are the pre-req's needed in order to apply? Thanks in advance!!

I've been looking into FGCU's nursing program as well. You can find a lot of information on their website. I've posted a link for you. A lot of the prereqs are the same as FSW's. You just need to have the additional bachelors prereqs as well.
