Advice needed for new BSN, RN in the Tampa, Fl area

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I recently graduated with my BSN from a school in St. Louis. I passed boards in January '12 and I relocated to Tampa, Florida. For every application I fill out and every HR department that I visit, I seem to get the same response, "We do not hire new nurses." I can understant that to a degree. However, I also have a BS in Psychology and 10 years of experience as a EMT medic in the Air Force. Not to mention, I was selected during nursing school to do research and study abroad to Africa and teach about HIV. During my military time, I worked in Labor and Delievery and was deployed as a combat medic. I have tons of experience in nursing, just not under a RN license. Does anyone have any advice on how to get a job at a hospital here in Tampa if they only go off your time as a "RN"???

Thanks!!!

RN Sam,

I am a new graduate with a BSN, and applied for August's All Children's RN Residency Program. I'm sure you have been asked a lot of questions since you are in the program, but I was wondering if you could answer a few for me. It can be a little tricky to find accurate information about the program online. I was curious if you know how many RNs they usually take into the program? Also, interviews start in the next week or so, so maybe you could tell me a little about that process? I tried to PM you, but couldn't figure it out :/ Thanks so much!

Have you heard from them regarding the program? I am waiting to hear something and am going insane, as I have another job offer that happens to be in another state.

Does anyone know if St Joes, Brandon, Lakeland or Tampa General have any upcoming residency programs? Thanks

I'm a little late, but TGH is only hiring BSN nurses, and it seems St. Joe's is following suit...they recently hosted a GN program but were only considering BSN applicants. Florida Hospital Tampa has an upcoming GN program opening next week.

Specializes in Peds OR as RN, Peds ENT as NP.

Keep your heads up! I don't believe interviews have happened yet. Most people graduate in May so there have been an overwhelming amount of applicants as you all can see. Something is wrong with my PMing. I am able to receive them with no issues just writing back gives me problems.

I would advise that you have back interviews/jobs set up just as a general rule. There won't be as many spots as there was in my class.

I do have a job offer pending, which is making the wait even more excruciating, lol. Waiting for this opportunity is the only thing keeping me in the state of Florida right now. I am just curious if anyone has been contacted at all--even denials. I'm turning into a crazy woman, checking my email at the sound of every notification, haha!

RN Sam,

I tried to PM you, but couldn't figure it out :/ Thanks so much!

Although you can receive Pms, you will not be able to send PMs until you have 15 posts.

I've applied and I haven't heard anything at all.

Thank you and yes it seems that many of the Tampa hospitals are moving towards hiring only BSNs as new nurses. It's definitely the trend now.

Sounds like we're in the same boat. I will try to PM you and maybe we can help each other out. I'm keepin my fingers crossed that we are all notified by the close of Friday

Anyone know how to get into the hospitals in Bradenton? I am having a hard time too, they say they have already hired all of the new grads. Any advice will be helpful.
