what to wear on the first day of work....ie orientation no where near the floor

Mom is right. Wear professional looking attire, always better to look too nice than sclumpy. Also, think about what you want to look like on your ID badge. Just a thought.

We were told that be did not have to wear scrubs but that we could not wear..... jeans, shorts or tank tops.... so I guess we need to wear slacks or dresses.... something nice.

I start Monday & was wondering the same thing! Thank you so much for asking. I'm just afraid I may look over dressed. I'll figure something out between now & then.

Yep,, casually professional and comfortable. A nice midcalf summer dress with sandles, summer slacks and top. No shorts,, jeans,, or revealing cleavage save that for the weekend.

Unfortunately your co-workers will be making judgements on how you present yourself even at orientation.

I wore scrubs. Took the hassle out of figuring what to wear, plus it made me feel like I was ready to work. I also didn't stick out like a sore thumb while traipsing around the hospital units.

I received my paper work today for orientation. Dress code policy is :

No denim of any kind (highlighted)

No halter tops or sleeveless shirts

Slacks should at least touch the ankle; Capri pants are not acceptable.

Hats are not acceptable

No T-shirts or collar-less shirts

No shorts or mini-skirts

No tennis shoes

No open-toe shoes and sandals or flip-flops;

No leggings or stirrup pants

Hospital t-shirts are allowed with scrubs

We have 5 days of orientation so i'm scrounging my closet now to put stuff together.

I was told to wear business type clothes for the part of orientation that is not on the floor.

Look at what the folks in HR and other admin jobs are wearing. Use that as your guide.

We were told basically the same things as you were, with the addition of "NO NIPPLES" I almost choked!! I found out after they have had problems with tight shirts and no bras in the past. Add that to cold air conditioned classrooms, well you know what comes next!!

OMG!! People just kill me:rolleyes: Ray Charles could see that wouldn't be appropriate! So... may want to add a light sweater (or lab coat) to your wardrobe tomorrow! Good greif... I'm always terrified my headlights are gonna shine... I keep a sweater in my car at all times - ya never know!

I love the prep look -- nice pair of khaki's with a nice cotton shirt/t-shirt (think Gap) will look great. Great sale on-line ... and their khaki's last forever. I've had two "wrinkle-resistant" pairs for years -- they look the same today as they did the day I bought them. You are starting a new career ... you will have workshops, etc. to attend outside the workplace ... invest in some simple, classics ... and you will wear them forever.
