A question for those of you that began in ICU or CCU

Nurses New Nurse

Published

i have an interview for the micu coming up (tomorrow eek! :coollook:) and i'm getting a little nervous. i'm wondering what questions you were asked in your interview? i'm asking here instead of the critical care forums, because i'm hoping to hear some questions given to new grads specifically...

also, did anyone land a position in critical care without any prior experience (tech/extern/practicum/preceptorship etc.)? i have none of those, but i do have experience as an aide in l&d.

I am a new grad starting off in the MICU. However, I am part of a new grad residency program and I'm in the Med-Surg rotation right now.

I had 1 year experience as a Nurse Intern. I also did part of my Capstone in the PACU, which is some critical care.

Questions I was asked were:

Why do you want to work in the ICU?

What do you bring to the table?

Where do you see yourself in 2 years?

Why should I hire you?

I was job offered 3 hours after the interview. Good luck!

In addition to the above questions, they also lood to be sure you have a great academic record, which counts for a lot. I know I remember being asked many behavioral type questions and situational questions (i.e., what would you do if...).

I wish you the best of luck. Sell yourself!!

hey lovenandj, RN! How did your interview go?

It went pretty well, the questions were very standard (why do you want to be a nurse, why the ICU, how do you feel about working in teams).

But the director did mention she was interviewing a lot of candidates, so I am not getting my hopes up in the case of yet another let down :scrying:

I'm a new grad that started off in the MICU about 7 months ago. I had no prior hospital experience, let alone ICU experience. My director asked me questions about solving conflict, my stregths and weaknesses, and other common interview questions. Good luck!

Well to update, I did not get the job, so back to square 1 :(
