Penn Nurse Externship 2017

Hello All,

I've noticed that there is no conversation about the Penn Nurse Externship Program that begins this summer so I thought I would create this as an area to talk about the application/hiring process! I applied to the Penn Student Nurse Externship Program in January and just heard back last week about an online interview (which I completed!). Im currently waiting to hear back about an in-person interview!

Did anyone else apply, if so when did you hear back from Penn and were you notified of an In-Person Interview?!

I haven't set an exact date, but I have to do it on a Weds since it's my only day off! And I asked in my email if there was anything I needed to bring or wear so I'll let you know when I get a response.

Hey I just got a confirmation for my interview! So its going to be the shadowing aspect first which we have to wear scrubs to and then we can bring a change of clothes for the sit down interview because they'll give us time and a room to change!

update: called the contact person and we are allowed to wear our scrubs for the entire interview day! they actually prefer it apparently! :)

I just had my interview today! I loved the unit but they told me they only hire one extern sigh

Omg yay! I have mine this Friday and I'm so nervous :nailbiting: just keep an open mind they might have loved you but they wanted to consider all their options before they made a decision!! did they tell you when you might hear back?! Also did you stay in scrubs the entire time?!

I stayed in scrubs! I brought interview clothing but the unit was so crazy and I didn't want to make the nurse manager wait more ya know? They told me I would hear back within two weeks. The shadowing part was awesome and I loved it, the interview was a little short but that was probably also due to the nuttiness of the unit haha

ahh okay! That def makes sense! I'm so glad you enjoyed the unit and I really really hope it works out for you!! I wasn't planning on taking interview clothing but maybe I should just in case! I'm so so so excited to shadow and see how the unit is but I'm very nervous about the interview part! 2 weeks is reasonable! Good luck to you!!

I would bring some just to quell your anxiety haha. The worst case is that you don't use it! Good luck to you too!!

I just had my interview today! I absolutely LOVED the hospital and the unit where I shadowed! My interview was also very short ( I don't know how I feel about this)! The nurse manager was great! They didn't mention when I would hear back just said that I was the last interview for them and hopefully soon! I guess the waiting game starts again :wideyed:

Yay that's awesome! I only know when theyd let me know bc I asked haha. I'm out of the country with my nursing program and I just wanted to make sure they knew I wouldn't be able to take phone calls

ahh gotcha!! I just got asked for references yesterday so hopefully we'll find out soon! Have fun abroad!

Hey Emily34812,CNA! I was wondering if you got notified about the position on your unit?!

It's going to be two weeks from my interview this Friday and I'm nervous because I haven't gotten contacted yet about the status of my application!

I heard back today and I didn't get it :(. They ended up taking a Penn student who is a CNA on the floor. But they told me to email when I graduate so at least there's that!
