New Grad L&D RN 2014

Nurses New Nurse

Hi friends,

After sending out over 200 resumes, 15 interviews, hiring a resume writer, and taking every possible OB/Baby certification under the sun I finally landed a new grad L&D job! I am so excited and so nervous. The facility isn't the nicest but its Joint commission approved &

it's close to home and I'm just excited to dive in. I have purchased several L&D books and have began memorizing the medications and am in STABLE & Intermediate fetal monitoring.

If anyone has advice on adapting to labor and delivery as a new graduate please share :)) I don't want to look silly in front of my preceptor lol.

Also I want to encourage you new grads that it is possible to land a new grad L&D job but it takes time. I specifically got this job by sending resumes to the head of every mother/baby/labor/delivery unit that I previously applied to online.

Thanks in advance

I'm happy you got the job you wanted.

Specializes in Postpartum, Maternal/child.

Congrats! I too am a new grad trying to get a position in L&D. Today I found out I am being interviewed by a hiring manager on an L&D floor close to home so I am beyond ecstatic but trying to be cautiously optimistic since I've been applying to several positions with minimal responses.

What other certifications did you go for? I'm trying to boost my resume now. I've completed the Fetal heart monitoring course and am working on the NRP and will then work on the ACLS. I also volunteer as a birth doula.

I'm curious how you got the names of the person in charge on the unit. Did you call or research online? I've been told that's the way to go.

Thanks for your response. Congrats again!!
